IU to Host Kansas State on November 25

As expected, IU has secured a power conference non-conference opponent for the 2025-2026 season. IU will host the Kansas State Wildcats on November 25 (a Tuesday). Kansas State is coached by Jerome Tang and they have a preseason ranking from Bart Torvik of 47 (for context, IU is ranked 41). Given how tough the Big 12 typically is, this will likely end up a Q2 game for the Hoosiers with the potential to end up a Q1 contest (I'd consider that unlikely but it's possible).

Cash Herrera to IU

The writing was on the wall as soon as Luke Fahey got an offer from Ohio State. Cash Herrera visited Bloomington after decommitting from Iowa and the Hoosiers now have their quarterback for the 2026 class. Herrera is a native of La Jolla, California and he is 6'3" and 207 pounds.

He was considered by recruiting analysts to be a "late bloomer" at the position but stood out at an Elite 11 Regional Camp in California. He's not the biggest kid but I do like his frame and 6'3" is plenty big for a quarterback in this system. Herrera is not a "scrambler" but he certainly has good enough mobility to escape the pocket and make a play with his legs when he needs to or to move around the pocket to get a better angle on a throw. One of the things every recruiting analyst that I read about him said was that he seemed to understand how to play the position and could process his reads quickly, progressing through his options quickly and then had the ability to make good on-time throws with anticipation of where the receiver was going, not just where he was at that exact second. In the films I saw, it did not appear that Herrera was playing behind a very good offensive line but he was tough and hung in the pocket to make good throws despite knowing he was going to take a hit.

We were told a national Rivals/On3 writer is writing up the commitment story for this but I wanted to add some thoughts and the story will presumably be posted to the site when it is ready.

Hey IU football marketing folks

Not that anyone listens to me, BUT, here's a free suggestion for fun.

Prepare for Mendoza to ball out this year and prepare social media/merch/whatever for "FernandoMania." Find old Dodgers merch they would have sold in the 80s when Valenzuela was coming up. Maybe take pictures of Fernando getting ready to throw a football with the trademark looking up deal. IDK, have some fun with it.

The utes won't know what it's all about, but the old timers might get a kick out of it.

Indiana ABT players 2000-2019

To supplement Hornet's post about IU players of the '20s, and to remember these guys one more time before the death of this forum, here are IU ABT players from 2000-2019:

QBs: ARE, 2nd team ABT '00. 1st '01; Kellen Lewis, 2nd team ABT '07; Nate Sudfeld. 3rd team ABT '15.

TBs: Lavron Williams. 1st team ABT '01; Tevin Coleman, 1st team ABT '14; Jordan Howard, 1st team ABT '15; Stevie Scott, 2nd team ABT '19 & '20.

OL: Enoch Demar, 2nd team ABT G '01; Roger Saffold, 2nd team ABT T '09; Dan Feeney, 1st team ABT G '15 & '16; Jason Spriggs, 2nd team ABT '15; Simon Stepaniak, 2nd team ABT G '19.

TE: Payton Hendershot, 3rd team ABT '19 & '20.

WRs; Courtney Roby, 2nd team ABT '04; James Hardy, 2nd team ABT '05 & '06. 1st '07; Tandon Doss, 1st team ABT '09 & '10; Cody Latimer, 2nd team ABT '12 & '13; Simmie Cobbs 1st team ABT '17; Whop Philyor, 2nd team ABT '19.

DL: Victor Adeyanju, 2nd team DE '05; Greg Middleton, 1st team ABT DE '07; Jammie Kirlew, 1st team ABT DE '08, 2nd '09; Adam Replogle, DT, 2nd team ABT '12.

LBs: Justin Smith, 2nd team ABT '00 & '01; Kyle Killion, 2nd team ABT '04; Tegray Scales. 2nd team ABT '16, 1st '17.

DBs: Herana Daze Jones, 2nd team ABT S '04; Tracy Porter, 2nd team CB '06, 1st '07; Rashard Fant, 2nd team ABT '16 & '17.

Some comments:

--IMO, ARE gets 1/2 of the credit for Levron Williams getting ABT mention;

--I really liked WRs Roby, Doss & Latimer as players....more so than the other WRs, even Hardy;

--I really can't remember much about LB Justin Smith....he must have been pretty good, making ABT 2nd team twice....just can't picture him, even though I remember everyone else well. On the other hand, I well remember Killion, who I suspect not too many people remember, as an active and aggressive LB.

-- I remember AH Jones as more of a linebacker-type rather than a DB;

--Middleton was a hell of a player in '07, even a 1st team AA....he came back in '08 and struggled, as I recall. Fant is another guy who I thought was great in year 1 but struggled the next year (although he was still named 2nd team ABT);

--I feel like WRs and TBs were our most productive positions; DBs, and especially TEs, the least productive.

--Were Feeney & Spriggs the best G-T combo of the least 24 years?

--My 12 best players overall (in no particular order): ARE; Roby; Hardy; Porter; Lewis; Middleton; Doss; Kirlew; Latimer; Coleman; Feeney; Scales.

I appreciate how hard all these guys played, often in difficult circumstances.
