calf injuries and Achillies

The Achilles tendon is connected to the calf. I was very concerned about an Achilles tear going into the game. I felt that if he was not 90% don’t risk it. Now next season is probably wasted.

Some guys have no luck being a bulls fan Rose went down it was the end of a era. I hope the Pacers can keep drafting well and keep this core group together.

I think if Haliburton ruptured his Achilles as bad as it looked, he may not play next season. You can’t rush an Achilles injury. Time will tell.

Goin for a title when close is probably worth it. With turner being a FA and they moved this years pick to get next years back, they have to to take a step back and build for 2027. I don't think Hali plays next year. Same with Tatum or Lillard. Turner might fetch a lot in a sign and trade. 2026 is suppose to be a strong draft as well. Does Brogdon come back now?

Lebron can take a 50 mil or so pay cut and do his farewell tour in cleveland for a Finals run. If he takes 50 mil in LA, I don't see them making the needed moves to compete in a loaded West playoffs. Cleveland should be clear faves in the East next year depending on how much Detroit and Orlando improve. The Knicks are OK but eventually I think they sputter out.

Its gonna be a very interesting offseason for the Pacers, for sure. The Haliburton injury could have devastating longer term impacts. Or maybe it allows guys like Nembhard, Mathurin, and maybe one of the less used younger bench guys to emerge and play well? And it ends up helping them long term?

If the team stays together, I'll be a pretty big Pacer's fan. Their team the last couple years, along with the Splash Brothers Warriors teams, are some of the most impressive, and fun, basketball teams I've ever followed or cheered for.

I know that being in the Eastern conference probably gives the Pacers a better shot to stay competitive through all this, though. The West is gonna be crazy for the foreseeable future. OKC isn't going anywhere. Houston just got Durant. Minnesota is gonna still be very good. Dallas is gonna be very interesting with Davis, Flagg, and then Kyrie. Denver is still very good. Golden State tapped in to something that could give them a few more years of competitiveness. Clippers and Lakers both have star power. Spurs feel like they're poised to start making OKC/Minnesota type leaps in play.

In the East... Celtics are gonna take a hit with the Tatum injury. Bucks might end up losing Giannis. Knicks are probably going to be good again, but who knows how the next coach will do. Magic are solid, and just got Bane, so they'll be good. Pistons are young, and getting better. But where the West seems to have 4-5 teams very capable of winning an NBA championship...I'd say the East has 1, in the Cavs. Which means staying competitive while waiting for Hali to get back will be much easier for the Pacers.

Don't know what this means for the Turner decision? They need him, or someone like him. I don't know the 3 and D, big man market, all that well. If you could get a couple good younger/cheaper guys, and there's a market for Turner, I'd probably work on a sign and trade. But I think they have a chance to be back in this same spot next year, if Hali's rehab goes well.

I tore an Achilles when I was 45... worst part is you're in bed for a month and non-weight bearing for another 8 weeks. It took 7 months to be able to walk around my block. At nine months, I ran a 5K.

I get he is much younger, in better shape, and has access to round the click medical care but it's a tough road ahead.

I did it a few years ago, similar age as you... I've had many/most normal sports injuries in my life... ACL, Shoulder stuff, disc problems in my back... The achilles one was the worst, mentally. For a few months its literally as if they amputated your foot.

Having said that... once he gets past those first couple months post surgery, I suspect for a young pro athlete like Hali, it won't be nearly as bad as it was for me. Once you get out of the walking boot, rehab ramps up pretty quickly.

He'll have the surgery in the next few days, and he'll be dribbling and shooting by August/September, I'd bet. Mentally, that's huge. Shoulder surgeries, maybe bad knee injuries are easier initially to deal with day to day life stuff. But getting back to doing normal things like shooting baskets, walking, etc... can take longer.

While it could take longer for him to get back to being an All star level point guard, than some other injuries. And the initial feeling of worthlessness lasts a little longer. The rehab and daily life once you get out of the boot, might not be as bad as some other common major injuries.

I’m still devastated. As a kid who kept scorebooks for virtually every ABA Pacers game while listening to an old AM radio, this was something I never dreamed could come true. The obvious big market bias of the NBA had completely soured me for years. This team (starting with last year’s run when they got screwed against the Celtics) has renewed my love for Pacers basketball. They do virtually everything you’d ever want your hometown team to do. It’s soul-crushing to be that close and 100% believe they’re going to be world champions only to see Hali crumble in excruciating pain.

I honestly don’t know what management will do this offseason, but Kevin Pritchard has been masterful at making chicken salad out of chicken crap. I trust he’ll make something that will work out. But please Lord, no more Brogdan. 🙏

What were you doing when you tore it?
