It will be RHP Luke Sinnard with an ERA of 4.05 in 66.2 IP. As usual, Serruto will be behind the plate and Mathison as the DH. The batting order is the same as usual with the exception of the bottom of the order where they have been shifting hitters around of late and it will have Jessee, Cerny, and Serruto in that order.

Purdue will have RHP Khal Stephen on the mound with an ERA of 3.93 in 66.1 IP and he leads the B1G in wins at 7-2. Purdue is loaded with right-handed hitters in their lineup with two lefties in there at the No. 1 and 7 spots.

It's partly cloudy to cloudy, with a temp of 73 at game time. There is not much chance of rain at game time and in looking at the hourly forecast for the rest of the evening, they give the chance of rain at no more than 15 pct.

1st Inning:

T1st:

Sinnard is real sharp to start the game and he put them down in order which included two K's.

B2nd:

Glasser led off with a homer to LF to give IU a quick 1-0.

Whalen followed up with a triple. Taylor followed with a single to score Whalen.

Tibbitts flied out deep to the fence for the first out with Taylor holding at 1st.

Mathison K'd looking on a full count for the 2nd out.

Pyne then clubbed a two-out, two-run homer off the scoreboard and IU rocked Purdue's ace in the first inning with IU up 4-0.

Jessee then doubled with two outs to put a runner in scoring position. Stephen's PC is already at 25 in the inning.

Cerny flied out to end the inning.

It was the 4-6 hitters up. Sinnard was about as sharp as a pitcher can get and he struck out the side, and it's been 6 up and 6 down to start the game.

B2nd:

It's the 9 thru 2 hitters up with Serruto leading off.

Serruto popped out for the first out and the top of the order up in Glasser.

3rd Inning:

T3rd:

It was the bottom of the order up for the Boilers. The leadoff batter popped out to SS. A throwing error by Glasser put a runner in scoring position at 2nd with one out.

A base hit scored the runner from 2nd for an unearned run with a runner on 1st and one out, and the top of the order up for the Boilers.

On a 1-2 count, Sinnard hit a batter on the leg to put runners on 1st and 2nd with one out. A FC got the runner at 2nd for two outs and runners on the corners. A GO retired the side.

B3rd:

It was the 3-5 hitters up with Taylor leading off. Taylor flied out for the first out. Tibbitts grounded out in a close play at first. Mathison then K'd looking on a full count for the 2nd time in a row and that ended the inning.

4th Inning:

T4th:

It was the 4-6 hitters up for the Boilers. Sinnard put them down in order.

B4th:

It was the 4-6 hitters up for IU with Pyne leading off. Pyne singled to lead off.

Jessee K'd for the 1st out with Pyne still at 1st.

Pyne stole 2nd with one out and IU doesn't steal all that often. Cerny then clubbed a two-run 434 ft homer to CF to make it 6-1 IU.

Serruto grounded out and we are at the top of the order in Glasser and two outs.

Glasser singled to put a runner on.

Glasser then stole 2nd with two outs.

A two-out double scored Glasser to make it 7-1 with Taylor up.

Taylor then clubbed another homer to make it 9-1 IU and Purdue's ace pitcher has really been rocked in this game.

Tibbitts then clubbed a 419 ft solo homer to make it 10-1 IU and that chased Stephen. Stephen was 7-2 as the leading pitcher in the B1G with only one of those losses in the B1G, but he was staring at loss No. 3 from the dugout for the rest of the game.

Purdue brought in LHP Cal Lambert with an ERA of 6.43 in 21 IP and he faced Mathison with two outs.

Mathison K'd for the 3rd time today to end the inning>

5th Inning:

T5th:

It's the bottom of the order up and the leadoff hitter hit a homer for the first earned run for Purdue in the game.

The next batter doubled to put a runner in scoring position and no outs.

A pop out to SS resulted in one out and a runner at 2nd. Bolton after striking out on a WP reached 1st with one out and the runner on 2nd reaching 3rd. A SF scored another run and that was followed by another flyout to retire the side with two runs scoring.

B5th:

It's the 6-8 hitters up and Pyne singled to lead off.

Jessee doubled to score Pyne from 1st with no outs and making it 11-3 IU.

Cerny flied out moving Jessee to 3rd and one out.

Serruto then got a RBI-single with one out.

Glasser walked on four pitches to put runners on 1st and 2nd with one out, and that was it for the Purdue reliever.

The Boilers brought in RHP Davis Pratt with an ERA of 5.80 in 40.1 IP, and he faced Whalen with one out and two on.

A WP moved the runners to 2nd and 3rd with one out. Whalen walked to load the bases.

Taylor reached on a FC with Serruto out at home for the 2nd out.

Tibbitts singled to scored two more runs to make it 14-3 and runners on the corners and two outs.

Mathison, after striking out three straight times, walked on a full count to load the bases again with two outs.

Pyne flied out to end the inning after IU sent 10 batters to the plate in the inning.

6th Inning:

T6th:

It's the 4-6 hitters up. The leadoff hitter reached on a double. A WP put the runner at 3rd. Former Hoosier Toetz then hit a 2-run homer with no outs to make it 14-5, and Sinnard may be running out of the gas. He has had long periods in this game of sitting in the dugout watching Hoosiers scoring runs.

Sinnard then got a K for the first out. The next hitter just missed on a homer that just tailed foul, but then K'd for the 2nd out. Sinnard then got another K to retire the side.

B6th:

It's the bottom of the order up for IU and Jessee led off with a solo homer which went 413 feet to left center to make it 15-5. Ey was warming up in the bullpen so we may have seen the last of Sinnard.

Cerny K'd for the 1st out.

Serruto then hit a 383 solo homer to LF and 7 of the 9 batters in the order have hit homers so far.

Glasser then got his 3rd hit of the game - a single with one out.

Whalen K'd with Glasser stealing 2nd and two outs.

Taylor was hit by a pitch to put two on and two outs.

Tibbitts walked to load the bases with two outs, and Mathison up.

Mathison hit a two-RBI single to make it 18-5 with two outs and Purdue goes to the bullpen again.

The Boilers bring in RHP Avery Cook with an ERA of 8.10 in 6.2 IP as we continue to see the backend of the Boilers' bullpen with the way the score is, and he faced Pyne.

On the first pitch to Pyne, he singled to score Tibbitts with Mathison taking 2nd and still two outs.

Jessee then hit his 2nd homer of the game, a three-run shot to LF to make it 22-5.

Cerny grounded out to end the inning.

IU 22 PU 5

7th Inning:

T7th:

RHP Brooks Ey came in for Sinnard with an ERA of 9.13 in 22 IP.

Ey got off to bad start by giving up a solo homer to a pinch hitter in the No. 9 spot.

Ey then gave up a walk and a single to put two on and then threw a WP to move the runners to 2nd and 3rd and not outs.

Ey then walked the bases loaded. A double off Pyne's glove that went to the corner scored two runs.

A passed ball scored another run and the Boilers have scored three runs without an out as Ey had absolutely nothing and his day was over with.

RHP Cooper Katskee came in with an ERA of 7.36 in 11 IP, with a runner on 3rd and no outs.

Katskee walked the first batter he faced on five pitches. Katskee then moved the runner to 2nd on a WP with the runner on 3rd holding.

Katskee got a ground out for one out with the runner scoring from 3rd and the runner on 2nd taking 3rd.

A single scored another run and a DP finally retired the side as IU's backend of the bullpen gave Purdue a sliver of hope by giving up six runs in this inning.

B7th:

It's the 9 thru 2 hitters up and Serruto singled to lead off.

Glasser hit into what could have been DP, but the Boiler 1B committed an error with Serruto reaching 3rd to put runners on the corners and no outs.

Whalen hit a SF to score Serruto with Glasser still at 1st and one out.

Taylor K'd for the 2nd out with the runner still at 1st.

Tibbitts singled to put runners on 1st and 2nd and two outs.

Mathison then walked to load the bases and Pyne up.

Pyne then walked to score Glasser to make it 24-11, with the bases still loaded and two outs.

Jessee was then hit by a pitch to score another run to make it 25-11.

Cerny then popped out to end the inning and IU had nine batters go to the plate in the inning.

Seiler was out there to close it out with IU up by a couple of TDs along with a 2-point conversion.

Seiler got the first two batters on a GO and a K. A ground out finished the game and it's a shame we couldn't have saved some of these runs for the rest of the series.

Purdue's Stephen came into the game as their ace pitcher and he led the B1G with a 7-2 record with just one loss in the B1G, but IU jumped on him right from the start and he must have been shellshocked when he left the game. If anyone was scoring this game, it would be interesting to see their scorecard to see if they had any room for everything that happened with the at-bats. Sinnard got off to a great start, but the long innings sitting in the dugout with IU going through the batting order might have eventually had some effect on him, but I don't think you will find him complaining with the runs constantly growing on the scoreboard.

IU outhit the Boilers 25 to 10 and IU was 25 for 49 with a team batting average of .510, while the Boilers were 10 of 36 for a .278. IU hit eight homers, three doubles, and a triple in the game. Everyone that started the game had at least one hit, and 7 of the 9 starters had homers and 7 of the 9 starters had multi-hit games. There's quite a bit of stats and here is the best of it and I will let the box score do the talking for the rest of it. Everyone but Whalen and Mathison had homers with Jessee hitting two of them. Everyone in the lineup had at least one RBI, with eight players having at least two RBIs.

Jessee: 4 of 5 to include 2 homers and 2 doubles, 6 RBIs, and 3 runs scored.
Pyne: 4 of 5 to include a homer, 4 RBIs, and 4 runs scored.
Glasser: 4 of 6 to include a homer, 1 RBI, and he scored 6 runs.
Whalen, Taylor, and Tibbitts had 3 RBIs each.

Both teams committed one error.

Sinnard pitched great early on but gave up a couple of runs in each of the 5th and 6th innings as he started running out of gas, but the long waits with IU batting around just might have had some effect on that, but who knows, and it was still a good enough start for him. We had some really bad appearances in relief this season on occasion, but Ey's appearance in the 7th had to be the worst of the worst as the Boilers had their easiest inning of the game at the plate. Seiler pitched extremely well for two innings to close it out. Here are the pitching stats:

Sinnard: 6.0 IP, 5 hits to include 2 doubles and 2 homers, 5 runs with 4 runs earned, 9 Ks, no BBs, 2 WPs, and one hit batter.

Ey: 0.0 IP, 3 hits to include a double and homer, 5 runs all earned, no Ks, 2 BBs, and 1 WP.

Katskee: 1.0 IP, 1 hit, 1 earned run, no Ks, 1 BB, and 1 WP.

Seiler: 2.0 IP, 1 hit, no runs, 2 Ks, no BBs, and the rest of his slate was clean.

Here's the scores around the B1G:

Minnesota 10 Maryland 7 - The Gophers (8-11) have improved from last season and they surprised just about everyone by taking the first game on the road against the Terps (13-6) which put IU in a tie with the Terps. Maryland's Dean lasted just 4.0 IP and gave up 6 earned runs. The Gophers outhit them 12-7 and also had 4 HRs in the game.

Iowa 9 MSU 0 - Iowa (11-7) stays a game and a half behind both IU and MD and just a half game behind Rutgers. The Spartans (10-9) have really faded since having a game lead on IU for 2nd place over a week ago and they have lost four straight conference games.

Rutgers 5 Illinois 4 - Rutgers (12-7) continued to hold on to 3rd despite being outhit 11-4 by the Illini. The Illini (11-11) missed out on a big chance to move up on Purdue and MSU for that 8th playoff spot. With just two games left in their conference season, the Illini probably need to win at least one of the two remaining games to stay within reach of the Spartans and Boilers. The Illini wouldn't be eliminated if they got swept; however, it wouldn't be advisable to be in that position.

Nebraska 19 PSU 5 - The Huskers (11-8) hit four homers in the home win to stay two games behind IU and MD and in a tie with Michigan for 5th place. PSU (6-12) got destroyed by a bad UNO team in Omaha in a midweek game before moving on to Lincoln and losing big again.

Michigan 12 Northwestern 5 - Michigan (11-8) got up on the Wildcats (3-16) 6-0 early on in route to an easy win, and the Wolverines stayed in a tie with the Huskers for 5th place.

UNC-Greensboro @ OSU - Game was ppd because of wx and they will play a Saturday DH.
