Big 10 Transfer Summary

If one were to actually look at the tv viewership data reported for the NCAA title game, you would find that viewership has been declining at a fairly substantial rate since the 1980s-90s where viewership was about twice what was reported for this year. A plot of the data shows a pretty steady decline with some scatter and the occasional blip but fairly consistent in direction.

One can hypothesize the cause, but SDSU, Purdue and UConn have little if anything to do with the trend. Personally, I think that it is because players are more perceived as being divorced from the general student body. NIL is likely to harden that perception. Add in the demographic decline in enrollment of men as the percentage of the student body and it correlates with the viewership data.
That, and the fact that basketball fans in general were not interested in watching the Edey/foul shit show any longer. Never have seen a team get dragged as badly as Purdue this past season.

should we hang our summertime banner now? (see link below)

"way-too-early" is the only thing i'm buying from this article right now. I don't put any credence into November polls, I sure as hell don't put any into polls a half year before the season begins.

However, I do think next season could be Fran's last in Iowa. And no one has really said much about his son- his own son- using the portal to leave and join Butler. That was a very unusual development.

Purdue is the only B1G program to having been voted #1 in the polls for three consecutive years. Since poll voters are distributed nationally, it would seem that Purdue is relevant to them based upon their actions. That is somewhat in contradiction to your post.
It doesn't contradict anything...what a group of people who's job it is to rank college teams, and then coaches...what those specific people think of Purdue is not what I'm referring to. Media at large, casual fans, probably even most fans that actively follow college bball...Purdue is not on their radar any more now that Edey is gone...They're Texas Tech, Texas A&M, West Virginia...pick a reliably successful P5 program that no one cares about unless/until they make a deep tourney run...that's who Purdue is.

Reading your post, I am somewhat surprised. As I read it, you are contending that "...probably even most fans that actively follow college bball..." do not have Purdue on their radar. It also suggests that media does not follow media closely.

It seems very odd that actively interested fans would not be aware of which team is ranked #1 in the polls, often for multiple weeks at a time. I would expect members of that group to be aware of many of the teams ranked in the Top 10. I would expect actively interested fans to read the polls on a weekly basis, thus making them radar-aware, regardless of which team is #1. As for media, I would think that they would be aware of what their brethren are voting. But perhaps that's just me.

I'm probably way more interested and informed on college basketball than the average fan is...

And I rarely ever think about Texas Tech, or A&M, or Creighton... That's who Purdue is, without Edey.

Of course what you have posted may be true except that tv viewership was only very slightly less than the previous year when Edey was not in the NCAA Final and rather close to the extrapolation of the declining viewership curve of the past 30-40 years; starting long before his birth. But if you exclude the hard data, your theory makes sense.

Have you gotten dog walked by any player's parents recently?

Looking at the B10 transfer in list, it seems to me that IU would have a much better group of players coming in when compared to the best players from all the other teams combined?
