When he plays with a solid group around him, that isn't nearly as much of an issue. TMP posted numerous times some lineup stats, when referencing how Woodson's substitution patterns were so bad for much of the season. And one of the most eye opening ones was how good our starting lineup was with Gabe in it (after X went down). Things got crappy, really quickly, when we started going to our bench.
Cupps ended up shooting 36% from the three point line. He isn't a "bad" shooter. He just isn't gonna be a guy that scores a ton off the dribble, and isn't going to create a ton of opportunities for himself. Next year, when he plays more minutes surrounded by more capable perimeter playmakers, like Rice, Carlyle, sophomore Mack, Tucker... he'll show more of why he was so successful in high school and AAU.
He had a rough freshman year, overall. Some of that is because of his limitations, some of it because of the team and lineups he was playing with. I think he'll likely improve on some of his own limitations, and the team around him seems to be much better suited for him to be effective.
