Wow! Bryce Drew out at Vandy

He's a classic star gazer. I doubt he understands how a team is actually built to win. He just thinks if you collect enough stars, regardless of age or position that it magically translates into success.

So when Vandy signed their greatest class ever last year with two one and dones he was certain it was going to translate into immediate success.

Doesn't realize that the downside to freshman savior's is they are still physically under developed, they have the highest potential for pro money and they just have one more step to get across so let's make sure they don't get hurt in the process along with let's have one foot out the door and most importantly, the adults treat you like the special child that's the youngest of the family which pisses off your older siblings that didn't get the same treatment.... especially if the older guys are beating your ass in practice and the games.

Meaning adversity brings out the worst in the locker room.

Vandy is a classic case. Garland got hurt early and Shittu wasn't good enough to lift the team as a freshman and it just imploded.

Now those seniors from last year are snickering.

Watch Georgia next year.
The funny thing is that he is the first one to post about how you never know how freshmen will play until they start playing at the college level. Which is one of the few things he's said that makes sense! But his hypocrisy is obvious when he wants to use the same logic to uplift other teams...

Feep is a fraud. He is a counterfeit IU fan who lacks even the rudimentary ability to judge basketball talent on a player or coach basis, and like victorbear lacks the basic mental acuity to recognize his lack of command on the subject (in other words too stupid to realize his ignorance).

This is SOOOOO spot on . . . ;)

Steve Alford (and his biggest fans) are available.
He will be the answer for some people here for every opening. He could battle Crean for last place next year.

Would we start seeing people wearing Vandy crap the way people jumped on with Texas Tech?

Yeah, a classic star gazer.

He's already on record saying that TJD is the only guy coming in that's 'any good'.

It's easy to look at a season like Vandy had and shrug it off as they are a program that was won only 3 conference championships in the history of the SEC.and historically, they have been mostly inconsequential. But looking a bit harder @ it this was truly untenable. The first team in 65 years not to win an SEC game. The first Vandy Men's B-Ball team with a losing record @ home in 67 years. The last 2 seasons mark the most losses in a 2 season stretch in Vandy's 117 year basketball history. And Drew was 3 years into a six year deal and the regression in each season is remarkable. Drew deserved to be canned by any metric, and I like the guy.

Im just glad there is now precedence for canning a failing coach in year 3...

I think you guys will be too around this time next season.

Yep, if Archie Miller coaches us to an 0'fer in the conference and a 2 year stretch of most losses in the history of the program, then Vandy and Drew can be viewed as a precedent...but I wouldn't hold my breath, as I doubt very much that it happens. But hey, you can wish for whichever outcome you like, it's your fantasy.

As someone said above, this new AD better have "his" coach ready to go...or at the very least, a system guy he wants his new coach to be. Otherwise, new AD Turner, may find he's not going to get the kind of coaching talent pool from which to draw from that he thought he would. It's a good job, not a great job. It's a tough job from the standpoint of most of his SEC brethren can recruit without much thought to academics.

I see some qualified candidates thinking "good job, BUT think I will pass on this one if he jettisoned the previous guy after only 3 years."

Will be interesting to see who is interested and how long it takes to make the hire.

The stupid floor layout would run off most good candidates.

I agree that going winless in year three likely gets one fired. My point is there will be coaches who might look at this job and take a pass.

While Bryce Drew was bringing in better than typical Vandy recruits, just MHO, this is gig that a coach will have more success developing 4 year guys than bringing in one and dones.

That really bothered me back in the day. I would go home and visit Washington and see the TT jerseys and hats. We all loved Coach knight, but our love should be more for IU than him.

I will take my punishment. I thought Bryce would do better this year but the team was very thin and could not sustain the loss of Garland. Our 2 other PGs transferred out when they knew they would get 0 playing time and that killed us. I do think with Garland, we would've been a bubble team. I also think we were so young that we didn't have the mental fortitude to pull out of the tailspin after the Tennessee game. That was a devastating loss and I think when it got to 11 straight losses, the young guys just shut down. Although firing him was warranted with an 0-19 conf, I wish they would have kept him for one more year. If nothing else, he had another good recruiting class coming in next year. Stallings didn't recruit well his last 2 years, Bryce didn't recruit well his first 2 years (no established relationships with power-5 players) and now the new guy will struggle for the next 2 years. So as much as everyone said the 0fer was unacceptable, we may have a couple more in the coming years. If he had been retained, he either would have shown significant improvement and earned another year or the new guy would have 2 years of good recruiting to lean on.

Anyway, good luck tonight with Wichita State. Hope you guys can win the NIT and use it as a springboard for next year.

And Jerry Stackhouse is the new coach.

I'll save all the trolls some time:

"If Glass had any brains, he would have backed a Brinks truck up to Toronto and hired this guy yesterday!"
