Wow! Bryce Drew out at Vandy

It’s a sad time when even Vandy has higher standards for their basketball program than we do.

Yeah, that a fair comparison, insert sarcasms. Drew won ZERO games in conference in year three. If Archie wins zero games next year I’ll be driving the Fire Archie bus, but it’s not going to happen.

That being said, this is a new AD, Drew is not his guy, Drew can’t coach, won’t be surprised if there are some NCAA violations that haven’t come out yet

It’s not even just that he won zero games, but was really only competitive in about 4 or 5 of those

From the article:

"This is a baffling decision by new Athletic Director Malcolm Turner, who took over less than two months ago. Turner, who has no experience in college athletics, was previously the president of the NBA’s G-League for five years. One source told Stadium that the meeting to terminate Drew was the first between Turner and the coach, and also that Turner attended just one practice since arriving in Nashville."

Sounds like this guy knows even less about being an Athletic Director than Fred Glass.

Good luck to Vandy.

You go 0fer, and you shouldn't be surprised when they hand you a box and tell you to clear out your stuff.k
[/QU.
Kevin Stallings had an 0-fer conference season at Pitt. Then Stallings was given a box and told to clean out his desk.

Hmm... just who was that genius on this board lecturing us about how great a coach Drew was last year?
Here's a hint...
Yes I do. Those 3 senior starters obviously aren’t very good. They’re going to be solid next year. I’m not saying Final Four run, but fringe top 25 I think is appropriate. Agree to disagree.

Now let's see if he defends his position by claiming that injuries to Vandy is the reason they sucked this year - while at the same time claiming that IU's injuries were meaningless.

They have some 4 star recruits for 2019 and if Garland is looking to transfer after his injury and this, I'd hope IU takes a look.

The only excuse to go winless in any season especially the third year would be if your entire roster was kidnapped or was quarantined and you had to field your team from the intramural league.

If Archie does that next year, I would be very surprised, but not surprised if he was fired.

I would say that the Vandys new AD probably had a coach he wanted to hire even before he stepped on campus.

Let's look at that exchange a bit closer:

Here is @fpeaugh:

"fringe top 25"? Feepaw the evaluator . . .

Redbeard chimes in:

Wait, you’re saying that the 3 senior starters obviously aren’t very good. OK. Then that means the players currently on the roster that can’t beat them out are even worse. Correct? There's not much of a chance that adding 2 5*s will make that roster close to the top 25. Sounds more like a .500 team to me. Which in all fairness would be a huge upgrade over this years Vandy team that sucks balls. We definitely disagree.

My two cents:

You make a lot of sense here.

Edit: Adding 2 transcendent 5*s might make a difference. But while Garland and Shittu are both really good players, neither is that type of player. Romeo is borderline transcendent, but really needs to get a lot stronger to be that kind of guy.

Nevertheless, your point is still valid. Adding Garland and Shittu alone to the other recruit and this years leftovers isn’t likely to be a tournament team. Could happen, but odds are against it.

Ok, @fpeaugh, what's your "evaluation" now? I'm assuming this didn't happen because you weren't "100%" sure, correct?

Yeah, Drew took over a team that had been not great but stable for over a decade, and he drove it into the ground in three years.

He wont defend his position, he will just disappear until it is time for a dick comment on a different thread.

My guess is his response will be a pivot to the point he was trying to make earlier in this thread. Which apparently is, Vandy > IU because they don't tolerate losing and fired their coach. Get out your pitchforks and faar em all!

Lol. I actually had another “genius” and thread in mind. Good find. Let’s see if that other person chimes in too.

Probably to his benefit to be injured this year as far as this nba draft goes. Sounds crazy I realize

He's a classic star gazer. I doubt he understands how a team is actually built to win. He just thinks if you collect enough stars, regardless of age or position that it magically translates into success.

So when Vandy signed their greatest class ever last year with two one and dones he was certain it was going to translate into immediate success.

Doesn't realize that the downside to freshman savior's is they are still physically under developed, they have the highest potential for pro money and they just have one more step to get across so let's make sure they don't get hurt in the process along with let's have one foot out the door and most importantly, the adults treat you like the special child that's the youngest of the family which pisses off your older siblings that didn't get the same treatment.... especially if the older guys are beating your ass in practice and the games.

Meaning adversity brings out the worst in the locker room.

Vandy is a classic case. Garland got hurt early and Shittu wasn't good enough to lift the team as a freshman and it just imploded.

Now those seniors from last year are snickering.

Watch Georgia next year.

My sentiment as well.
