Essegian opting for the draft?
Great kid . Wish we would have recruited him out of High school . Did some of his games on the radio last year , and he was really a smooth player , fun to watch , and nice kid . I would be really surprised if he went pro early . I see him as a 4 year player , who plans on getting a degree before thinking about the next level . I could be wrong , but doubt it .

You guys do understand that it's a serious NCAA infraction to contact any player at another school until after their name is in the portal, correct ? I'm sure it happens because some programs pay no attention to any rules or code of ethics, but that's a hell of a risk the vast majority of schools and coaches aren't willing to take. Given the way the NCAA jumps to hammer IU at any and every opportunity, I would prefer folks connected with the program take a hands-off approach until contact is permissable.

Don’t recall MK actual stats, but think they were pretty good and people pointed out he was doing it while being the focus of every defense. Then he comes here and posters whine about how slow he is, just stands in the corner, why doesn’t he shoot more……while it’s fun to speculate, let’s wait and see who enters the portal and go from there and trust the staff to make the right decisions….hopefully a decent run in the tourney will make us more desirable to recruits

no thank you
keep them, we dont need them,

if any. of them can grow into 6 foot 8 wings over the summer, sign them up Honestly though I don't see any of them being interested. They'll see major playing time next year for teams that finished in the same general level as we did. Unless they are just chasing NIL money and we can buy them. Damn that felt dirty to say.

Dont want or need them.

All of them would help us, yes.

In order, I'd take Essegian, Barnhizer, Goode, Perkins.

None of them are going to happen. And none of those guys fill our biggest need which is versatile length and/or frontcourt help. Goode could help there a little, but he's more perimeter oriented.

With X coming back, Perkins would be the least NET gain. But he's good enough that he'd be a main rotation player. And he is pretty good defensively on the perimeter. All 3 of the others would likely start for us at the 3, and provide quality outside shooting/scoring. So yes, they'd all help.

He'd be my top choice as a transfer in portal.

Agreed. I would take any of them if they entered the portal. Re: my earlier post in this thread, I don't take issue with potential transfers being discussed. I do take issue with posters suggesting or implying that these are players we should "go get", as if it would be smart to contact them about transferring or that we should be openly recruiting or offering NIL inducements to kids who currently play elsewhere.

This brings up another point that some posters don't seem to get. NIL cannot be discussed with any athlete until that athlete is enrolled and on campus. Even then, NIL money has to be arranged through the athlete and private parties. It cannot be provided by athletic departments.

Not to disagree, but “cannot” is probably the wrong language. Of course it can. And in some cases it has. I know what you mean though (ie against the rules)

For sure.

I'm not sure having a strict adherence policy of the rules in place would benefit a program like IU. But I certainly wouldn't be for flagrant rule violating either. Mainly because we shouldn't need to.

But touting our NIL connections and capacities, with top transfers and recruits...should be a very central part of our recruiting pitch, I would think. Its an important factor in pretty much all top level players decision making process, it would be dumb and even negligent on our staffs part, to not figure out a way to tout IU's prowess in that area.

Hopefully, Buckyville banks in a L against O$U tonight. Talk around Madison is that Gard has to go. If that happens, you have to wonder if Essegian hangs around or bids Wiskyburg goodbye. Here's hoping for the joyful angel chorus tonight: DOWN GOES BUCKY! DOWN GOES BUCKY!

Ha…. Parent tells AAU/high school coach, coach talks to school(s). Seed planted. Probably happens every single day of every year.

You do realize that Gard was Big Ten COY last year? The idea that last year's COY gets bounced when his team is a serious Tournament candidate absent serious misconduct is not reasonable. Your post is not serious.

Really? He’s won coach of the year twice in what the last four years? Who the hell would they get to go there that’s any better.

He hates Wisconsin perhaps because he’s jealous of their incredible success in that past 20+ years.

Again, IU should never be a program that relies on NIL to attract talent. Pitt is that kind of program, same with Clemson, or Iowa State... not IU.

He was a huge Michigan fan growing up.. never a Iu fan.

I've been on a couple other boards and have heard people say that they almost anticipate Essigian transfers, like almost guaranteeing that he is wanting to come here. Personally I'll gladly take someone shooting 39% from 3 as a frosh and 87% from Ft

I didn't much of Wiscy this season. Did he deal with some mid season injury? Also, it felt like he was underutilized for them?

Wisconsin was one of the few teams I didn't watch much of. He didn't miss any games. He played all 30 games and was 5th in minutes for the Badgers. So unless he was playing through some nagging stuff, I'd say he was pretty healthy

Every program worth a crap is or will be relying on NIL to attract talent.

Aspiring professional basketball players want money. Given how much money their work makes, they certainly deserve it.

There seems to be buzz about Essegian transferring to IU after season. No idea if real or not.

no thank you with limited scholarships available we need a big man or two.

Those are the rules, but the NCAA is so toothless now there really aren’t any rules. It’s against the rules to use NIL to entice recruits, but there have been some openly publicized bidding wars going on for football recruits that don’t seem to be getting any attention from the NCAA.

How about Omoruyi? 6’ 11”, nearly averages double double. Defends Zachary!
I don’t know about his fine details, but he seems to fulfill some of our needs.
Or, should we look outside B10?
