Ceiling not so much? I think this team has a lot of pieces and at least the ingredients of a F4 type team. That's a pretty high ceiling in my book. The 2 major concerns to me are Ballo's health and coaching, but this is a much more complete and talented roster than last year, and than he's ever had, I believe. I know most will jump on shooting, which I think will be much improved, but I also don't think you have to be more than efficient on 3s. UCONN didn't live by the 3 ball, so it can be gameplanned around and we have a lot of pieces to do so.He won't be able to help himself. Ballo and Malik will be on the floor together a lot. 3 point shooting still a massive concern. The floor is very high for this team. Ceiling not so much.
Effort and execution needs to be consistently better. If the new players help with that, and/or if Woody figures out how to coach that in to this team, they'll be one of the better teams on the country by years end.Ceiling not so much? Anxious to see them all out there as well.I look forward to seeing a line-up of Carlyle, Rice, Tucker, Mgbako and Ballo/Reneau on the floor. Defend and run.
You are stupidI'd be shocked if they made it past the S16. Woody is a horrid coach and the shooting is still lacking.
They asked Ballo if he shot the 3. I am thinking with a kid that big I want him down low and dunking, rebounding and blocking shots. He won't be able to help himself. I just hope they don’t stick to the 1 on 1 pick and roll while everyone else stands around offense that they mostly failed on last year! I’d like to see more off ball cuts and screens please! They asked Ballo if he shot the 3. I am thinking with a kid that big I want him down low and dunking, rebounding and blocking shots.
There will be plenty of pick and roll. The difference is that both Rice, and Ballo excel in the PnR...plus there are viable options for kickouts if it isn't open. This will not look like last years team, even if they run some of the same sets and plays.I just hope they don’t stick to the 1 on 1 pick and roll while everyone else stands around offense that they mostly failed on last year! I also want to see how Ballo passes out of the double team. He probably will be quite often if he is effective early. So I want to see Mgbako have more open 3's and the other guys as well.I just hope they don’t stick to the 1 on 1 pick and roll while everyone else stands around offense that they mostly failed on last year! Rice has a nice pocket pass which Ballo will need to adjust too. They will run the same sets (most teams run them)and plays but now have guards who can cook. Some of our best moments last year were when Trey was coming hard off a pick and roll and attacking the rim, lobbing to Kelel, or kicking to the corner. Its a very effective action if you execute it consistently, puts tons of pressure on the defense.Rice has a nice pocket pass which Ballo will need to adjust too. Then keep listening to those who are always wrong. You are stupid
I’m going to bet they run horns to a 4-out. I posted film showing it last year. I know Malik isn’t a shooter but he can shoot a little. So when he does flair he sets a screen for the 3. So it does draw a defender away. Some of our best moments last year were when Trey was coming hard off a pick and roll and attacking the rim, lobbing to Kelel, or kicking to the corner. Its quite a lot more difficult to run that effectively when you have post players camping in the lane, though. So where Malik is during this pick and roll action between Ballo and Rice, could impact how effective it ends up being for us, overall.
Do you not decide your own opinion? Who you "listen to" makes up your mind for you? Do some homework. Then keep listening to those who are always wrong.
UConn? You do remember that Cam Spencer was playing for UConn last year?UCONN didn't live by the 3 ball, so it can be gameplanned around and we have a lot of pieces to do so.
Always a naysayer. He won't be able to help himself. Ballo and Malik will be on the floor together a lot. 3 point shooting still a massive concern. The floor is very high for this team. Ceiling not so much.
Mgbko 6' 9'' 222 wow.
I call it as I see it. I've been very bullish on Coach Cig. But the NBA to college coaches never work out.Always a naysayer.
we will see.I call it as I see it. I've been very bullish on Coach Cig. But the NBA to college coaches never work out.
UCONN and this IU team are not even in the same zip code. From talent to coaching and everything in between. A good group of personnel for sure for IU but not at UCONN’s level even remotely.Ceiling not so much? I think this team has a lot of pieces and at least the ingredients of a F4 type team. Admittedly, was over the top there. UCONN does have better talent but the real key factor is Hurley. Just takes his roster and elevates it beyond anything Woody could comprehend.Talent isn't in the same zip code, huh?

wow, this is an IU BOARD!, if you are so upset please go to Conn. Nothing positive.UCONN and this IU team are not even in the same zip code. From talent to coaching and everything in between. A good group of personnel for sure for IU but not at UCONN’s level even remotely.

When they win , I do not want to hear you. GO TO CONN.zzzzzzz zzzzzz
My point wasn't that they didn't make a lot they took, it was that UConn didn't put up crazy #s of 3s. I think this team will actually be pretty decent shooting 3s, because I think they have so many weapons it will stress the D and so where they all (returns and xfers) were having to force and take bad/contested shots this year. Like UConn last year, I think we'll benefit from that balance and if they move the ball we'll consistently find someone open and able to step into a good 3 shot. I think Carlyle, Rice and Galloway will all see their 3 pt % jump by 5% or more and all will be 35% or better. Mbako shot it decent last year so I'm not looking for much more out of him than higher volume and obviously Goode is a good shooter and Cupps ended up being OK.UConn? You do remember that Cam Spencer was playing for UConn last year?
UConn was ranked about 200 spots higher on 3pt% last year than Indiana. That's a significant amount.
Also, the net difference between 3pt% and opponent% for UConn was big. Like 3 or 4% big. IU may have managed 0.5-1% better than opponents last year.
It's an ocean of difference, not to be taken lightly.
