No chance. If Woody's tenure isn't successful, IU won't hire another former player.
Calbert might be a good coach , but getting the IU job without any previous head coaching experience could be a gamble . Of course any hire is a gamble , look at Archie , but it is better to have a record to go by when hiring a new coach .
Don't see any chance of that happening. Maybe if he'd been on the bench 10 years and CMW had established himself as a "program" coach who could select his replacement (ala Roy-Hubert), but that's not the case. Don't see any way this happens, unless something happened, he were promoted as an interim and they went on a wild run and they players were supporting him.

Then you say this is the coach we are hiring , and if you choose to leave then there is the door . With the portal you could replace those who left really guickly , and not have to go through a complete rebuild .

Calbert had the UE head coaching job locked up and made comments that led the university to hire Walter McCarty. I heard him say in an interview that he likes the role he is in and indicated he had no interest in being a head coach, He said money isn't an issue for him and I don't believe him when he says he doesn't want to be a head coach
There was no transfer portal at the time but was still a mistake.
I’d really like to know what happened there. McCarty was an unmitigated disaster. Calbert could have set himself up for big things in the coaching world with a couple of good seasons at UE.
interestingly, UE has won 10 games so far this season. big game with Cincy on Friday. head coach David Ragland has the program uplifted and tracking well.
Love Calbert but has no real coaching experience love for him to stay on staff and maybe one day get a shot at a mid major.

If Dolson's football move was any indication, that next b-ball hire could be a doozy that sorta surprises us.
At least that's my hope.

He's surprised me twice with Miller and Allen. He might do it again.
That was under the previous President. There may now be new motivation for better results in Athletics. The Football coach hire is one clue.
