Woodson retiring today rumor

Miller was far worse. Woodson gets blown out by top 40 teams, Miller got blown out by 200 ranked teams .. Woodson gets a buy in from some of his players, Miller never did, not one year, not one game .. Woodson made the tourney. Miller is probably the better coach, which makes the job he did at IU worse than what Woodson has done. He had the higher ceiling but only reached a lower floor.

Three worst coaches since RMK left.
Dakich (only because he's a drunk dickhead)
Miller
Woodson

Once the regency bias of Woodson's failures pass, you'll see it ..
Nope. Coaching is recruiting. Losing a Mullins 40 miles from Bloomington and the sh!t show with Mcneeley and sh!tying the bed with Ballo, makes you worse than Archie.

Going down 40 to a new coach at Louisville makes you worse than Archie.

Having Ballo at the top of the key trying to feed Reneau makes you worse than Archie.

Taking Ballo out at the end of the fire drill Purdue game makes you worse than Archie.

Not beating a winning team in forever makes you worse than Archie.

But basically Losing Mullins and complementing retirement with 8 games to go makes you the worst hire we’ve ever had.

he's not retiring on his own

Why would you keep an incompetent coach, who has accomplished nothing, around until the end of the year if he's not coming back?
What difference does it make? Coaches announcing their resignation or retirement before the season ends yet coaches to the end of the season happens all the time.

Things like this do often progress quickly. This announcement very well could evolve quickly in to an immediate retirement…depending on how Woodson and the players handle it.

But assuming Woodson has a decent attitude about it all…as I’ve said before, I think this is the best outcome or approach.

It should disarm the pitchfork fans, and hopefully free them and everyone else up to cheer for and support the team more the rest of the season.
Yep, I'm fine with it, especially if it's true the players want him to continue as coach. This answers the questions and we know we are getting a new coach, and an interim isn't likely doing anything with this team, and if they did, then it opens the can of worms of should they be retained, and that's already bit us in the ash once.

If people haven’t picked up on it by now, the dude is oblivious.
Could completely understand how Woody might feel blindsided. He’s not an able to pick up on any clues.
I will admit that, although I don’t know Woodson at all, from my perspective he seems to lack self-awareness more than any individual I have ever observed. Him being “blindsided” by this would seem to confirm that.

Speaks to many of his other issues as the head coach here IMO

Yep. Blew off Matta and Fife as guys hired to help him transition to the college game, hasn't networked with some great coaching minds in Moren, Cig and Yeagley, and surrounded himself with yes men. Lots of opportunities for him to help himself that he mismanaged.

Extreme arrogance to refuse to use the resources of Matta and Fife that Dolson had the foresight to provide to keep Woodson out of the exact position he is in now.

Where did you hear that about “the players want him to continue”?

How is god’s green earth could Woodson have felt blindsided??
He didn't think his situation would be addressed until the end of the season, have to assume in his mind he thought could still turn this thing around. this decision was not supposed to go public. many people involved, who leaked it and from which side who knows guess both would have an agenda to do it. he has had some health issues; he's not the arrogant ass he's being made out to be. is he overconfident in his own abilities? I think that's obvious most leaders are. Bottom line is it's out there now, was probably mishandled from a pr standpoint. 99.9 percent of the fan base wanted him gone including myself I knew after year 1 he was a poor choice. Saturday, I hope he gets an ovation, and the fans rally around the team. next chapter begins after the ncaa tournament. don't sleep on Mick Cronin

It is kind of odd...

But if the stories are even close to true about how Woodson has treated Dolson since he was hired... And if the stories are even close to true about Dolson wanting to move on Woodson last year, but getting "overruled"...

Then whoever the "leak" was, did IU and Dolson a HUGE favor. Dolson doesn't owe Woodson a damned thing (other than the buyout money), if those things above are true. And making it public now makes his job searching for the next guy, quite a lot easier.

I know Woodson probably still thinks he's a big fish in a small bowl, being in college...but high level college basketball is for big boys. So be better Coach...and if you can't be better, as it sure appears...be ready to be called out for it. He probably learned these lessons 45 years or so ago...I guess maybe he forgot them?

Now... having typed all that. I agree...I hope our fans rise up and support this team and program the rest of the year. Still some chances at some fun wins.

Who comes in as interim coach? Cheaney? Anyone but Rosemond or Hunter

At this point I think you could go with the GA's and the Managers plus maybe Leal as the final authority in a short time out situation...

You literally couldn't do any worse than what we've seen from any of our highly paid staff...

I guess if you Have to have a figurehead you can make Leal the post game team spokesman... (he can do a little off the cuff advertising for his real estate gig as asides too)....

We play like an AAU outfit may as well have an AAU quality staff...

right, it was mishandled but as they say the deed is done.

Woodson is probably better off its out there, if things go south Saturday and the public wasn't aware he was done, it could have been an ugly scene. I sat amongst 500 people chanting fire Archie at the BTT , wasn't a proud moment for IU athletics.

Hés not a good college coach, was a stupid decision to hire him in the 1st place, but what he is, is one of the best players to ever wear an IU uniform. I stated on here a few weeks ago this would be the best outcome. Just hope the fans let it end with dignity

The year 1 Matta/Fife/CMW debacle was a clear sign that this was never going to work. Many of us thought the 'arrangement' (ie coaching training wheels) felt weird. Very unorthodox. I'll table the Fife departure discussion but the way Matta sat there for a season, basically looking at his watch, and then departed at season's end without a hardly a word, and hasn't really discussed that period of time since... more red flags. This thing was doomed from the start. TJD kept it afloat for 2 yrs. Since his departure it's been a slow death spiral.

Ware bought him this year. 5 years from now we might appreciate what a true talent he is. last year would have been historically bad if we didn't get him from the portal.

I want to believe it’s an actual leak. If it’s a “leak”, it’s true. You can’t leak a lie. A lie is just a lie. A rumor is just a rumor. By definition of the words, if it’s really a “leak”, it isn’t made up.
