Woodson's polite, good-natured honesty is refreshing. I bet parents and recruits immediately like him.

I get the feeling that there's no "desperate salesman who would say anything just to close the sale" from Woodson. I don't know if it's because he became a rookie college coach at the age of 63 after a pretty successful career as a player and coach in the NBA. Or maybe it's just his general laid-back disposition.

Either way, that alone is a refreshing change from the previous 4 years.

Great post. I believe his financial situation allows him certain freedoms that other coaches may not have. i.e. he has FU money without the job. I love that. Makes him genuine. I'm a massive CMW fan. Haven't been this excited for IU hoops in decades. Go Hoosiers!

Archie and Crean had to placate to all that is IU. Watching Archie coach, or lack there of with Romeo, was vomit to watch. Woody didn't let Tamar play in some games, and said son, you earn it. Woodson is gonna have us rolling this year.

I’ll finally be able to puff my chest at all these damned Gamecock and Tiger fans around me. They won’t care but I’ll feel better

Same thing was said last year and many years before that I’m sure. IU is ALWAYS ranked higher by IU fans until they start the B1G season, then reality kicks in.

Last year the goal was to make the tourney. This year it will be to get to the sweet 16 or beyond. I’ll prob have us at the final 4 tho.
If IU just stays the same .. no changes, injuries, or chemistry issues we should be top 30 easy. Minor changes or average growth, top 25.

But, if JHS can play at speed, or if Tamar breaks out, or if Jordan breaks out or any combination of the aforementioned happens, or if anyone else surprises ... especially on the perimeter.... IU is going to be a tough team to play.

TJD goes - drop us quite a bit.

People don't remember a time where players and teams got better every year.

It used to happen quite often and was expected. One of the major weaknesses of Davis and Miller was development. No one developed under either. With Crean, he was decent with wings and guards. Not enough though.

Hope an emphasis is put on development, both through recruiting players who work and are coachable, and then developing them. 50% is on the player...

I expect to see a better version of everyone, and a better version of the team. There's no reason not too.

My personal estimation is the most impactful improvement is TG increasing his shooting %. When he gets in the game positive things happen. His play makes the other 4 better. As I've stated before he is close to being the John Havlicek of CBB. An improved shooting % and he has arrived. A lot more improved shooting % and he resembles, ya, here it comes, a smaller Hoosier, LB.

Most coaches hope their players succeed at the next level, sounds to me like Old Mickey wants him to sacrifice for his program. If TJD comes back and gets hurt, TJD will pay the big price, Old Mickey, no problem? Has any other coach ever done this publicly?

just shout "IU SUCKS!!" and get it out of your system already. You know you want to.

Old Mickey? Is that supposed to be some sort of a jab or insult?

Go back and root for pork chop while your NIL money gets collected for a new sheep barn.

I assumed he was invoking his inner Toni Basil via Freudian slip.

You've had an account for 20 years and rarely posted. I guess this means you think your opinion on this was very inciteful and important and just had to be expressed.

Probably has hundreds, if not thousands of posts on GBI.

Wow...."close to being the John Havlicek of CBB" is a HUGE reach.
