It was thoroughly proven last year that the way to beat the Zach Edey Painters is to swarm and surround the two Purdue guards (i.e. Smith and Loyer; does Purdue even have a third good guard?).
If you do this effectively, Zach Lurch is all alone and has nothing to do standing underneath swinging his elbows at the chins of the defenders to no effect. Without his guards, he rarely gets the ball. (NOTE: IU did not have the defenders this year to use this tactic.)
So how did Wisconsin prevail today? Same as it ever was. They attacked Purdue's guards and somehow/inexplicably persuaded Big Ten refs to actually call fouls on Edey in the first half. Edey usually does not see this. He looked thoroughly confused about it. And, even in the second half with only two fouls, he was hesitant to shove, push, assault as usual because he had actually been whistled for these new-fangled foul things, which he was inexperienced with. He didn't know how to react to not being protected and immune from fouls.
As for the guards, who was missing at the end of the Wisconsin game today ? Answer: Braden Smith. He fouled out with about one minute to go. Again, attack Purdue's guards! That's the ticket to defeat Purdue in the NCAA tourney.
As we all saw when Smith fouled out today, without Braden Smith, Loyer is just a taller, younger version of, well, me. Loyer basically is nothing without Smith. He's pretty good, but he can not replace Smith.
And, in advance of the inevitable Purdue attacks on this post, IU's incompetence this year changes nothing about the way to beat Purdue. Basketball is basketball. Purdue's weakness exist independent of IU's weaknesses. Teams still beat Purdue by attacking the two Purdue guards. Edey's points today did not matter.
I rooted against puKES in 76, 81, 87 and all years before, during and after those. That is why it is a great rivalry.
IU just started rooting against Purdue this year. Incredible development!

Bottom is not going to a FF since 1980. At least IU can get another coach: you need a new program.
IU has been to multiple FF's in my lifetime: PU has not. PU fails in March no matter what.
Maybe IU should hang onto Woodson for 20 years and build a statue of him like PU.

I honestly feel bad for you guys - Purdue can lose in the tourney early every year but at least we are playing in it - you guys just throw shade when you aren’t relevant - it’s ok - we are are 1 seed and we earned it by destroying you twice and the big ten - go IU

1980: you have your own problems. You might as well give up on the NCAA tournament. At PU, it is a program level issue: at IU, it is a coaching issue.
Right Purdue should fire the 5 time coach of the year in the Big Ten - maybe we should hire Woodson

There is no NCAA accountability at PU. You can be historically bad, no worries. I wouldn't recommend Woody.
I understand why you're acting out - I've raised children. They do that when they are hurting. The good news is they usually grow out of it and everything ends up being okay.
Refs can dictate a game - you guys complain that Edey gets away with everything well they took him out of the game right away

We played for the National Championship in 02. To your question about the NIT I have heard we are turning down an NIT bid. I actually think that is a good idea because who will play in those games? Ware and MgBako probably won't play. Perhaps there are others who will opt out because they are transferring.
