I was having a discussion with a friend who says he would be just fine with IU either fielding an old-school Raiders-esque team that played dirty but managed to win games by physically abusing the opponent, or he said he would be fine if IU cheated on the recruiting trail for a few years to try to build the program and hope they didn't get caught.
I wouldn't be OK with either of those scenarios. His justification is that everyone else is dirty in his mind on the recruiting trail, so IU should be a little more bold when it comes to the rules. Same with the play on the field. His attitude is that if IU is going to get flagged anyway, make it count and take some steam out of the opponent for the end of the game.
My question is whether you would be OK with IU playing a little loose with the rules for a few years to gain some momentum on the football field. I, for one, wouldn't be OK with that. To me, it would be a slippery slope.
