Stay single kings!

Gotta be honest men, I think I may have cracked the code, and for the life of me I don't know how I ended up at this place. With the same lady for 40 plus years now. These days outside of taking on the occasional contract gig, I stay home doing the domestic tasks and manage the finances while she works full time outside the home. I mean, there's a chance she took me hostage in the 1980's and I now hold the world's record for the longest case of Stockholm Syndrome ever recorded, but either way I've got it made!

Down the street? You live in Clayton? I used to live off Skinker and Waterman a block from the loop.
Ha! My minion and I catch the train at my office and hit the coffee shop at skinker and the pkwy at the edge of the campus

I used to hit that coffee shop daily. It was a short walk for me. I think it’s changed names. We left the city in 2007. Back then I think it was called Kayak’s. I used to work in Brentwood. Wife was a resident at WashU, we lived there for 4 years.

I’m BillyBob in her phone. Why? Who knows. Been that way since she was 12.

It's all built into the Swampocratic Oath.

"With all that I hold dear, now that I spent 100's of $Millions to win a $175,000 job, I shall reward myself, through shadow programs and cascading LLC's" is how it starts.
AKA the "I'll assume no harm" oath.
Sad but so true

I miss the restaurants in the STL. Pho Grand, Cunettos, Tony’s, Pueblo solid. Miss hitting the Pageant too.

34. Calif system killing it. Bunch of schools ahead of iu that surprise me

Some states invest in their schools. Others let them wither.

Last 20 years the state of Indiana made a choice to cut funding for University. Get what you pay for. This state wants to be about logistics and warehouses. Not about much else. And Lilly

Kind of makes you realize just how much our national research industry (for lack of a better term) depends on federal dollars, if a school like Columbia only has a $15B endowment, but has $5B of committed federal grants. Take away the fed money, and these schools can't do anything.
IU only has a lousy $3.5 Billion endowment. I'm not sure how much longer IU can continue as a viable university.

There are D1 universities all over America with endowments under 50 mil. Top tier research is one thing but existing is another

Fetterman don’t play

The Indiana legislature has not given two shits about our state universities for decades now. They at best do not care, or at worst are openly hostile to college education.
And yet, Purdue manages to have top research, brings in technology, and doesn't raise tuition for a decade.

Maybe there's a reason the legislature doesn't feel the need to throw money at public universities when some do quite well with what they've got.

Purdue remains a top tier engineering school, no doubt. And just like IU, they attract a lot of private investment dollars to utilize the educated workforce.

On tuition, you need to look a little deeper. Purdue has kept tuition steady by accepting a large percentage of international students. It’s a state university in name only at this point. It doesn’t accept that many Indiana kids anymore. That is how Purdue responded to the funding cuts from the state legislature. I for one don’t think that’s a great thing for the state.

IU Foundation has remained fairly constant around the $3.5-4Billion for the last 20 years, as they acquired a large chunk or real estate in and around the near north side of Indy, from 21st street down to the canal district. Building a huge medical complex along I-65 now. Just sold their Outpatient Surgery facility on 103rd Street in Carmel.

I’m sure there’s stringent oversight & it’s all spent very frugally too.
Schools don’t “spend” endowments. They don’t touch the principle of that money. Without jumping through some major hoops and cutting through red tape it’s illegal to tap into that. All the interest from that pays for things like endowed chairs, scholarships and other things they’ve raised money to pay for things in perpetuity.

All of that money is tied to donor wishes and agreements. And has a specific purpose tied to it. Big endowments are insane, but they’re definitely not slush funds colleges and universities could/should tap into.

So their cash has been the same, but assets have skyrocketed.

Disagree. Spend it or tax it.
