There may well be good reasons.

Is there some knowledge base or newsworthy information he has access to that we can't get anyplace else and that needs to be expanded on every day?

Tbf. He is everywhere, not just on MSNBC. From The View to CNN.

He has a TV-friendly face. He is basically doing a Trump TV strategy but infinitely smarter and more articulate.

Some lawyers like cameras. He's apparently one. MSNBC likes Trump's opponents. He's definitely one.

Stupid question, I suppose; maybe what I meant to ask is whether there are any TV news outlets I can turn on without becoming dumber by the moment.
BBC America is okay.

To be honest, of the Big Three, MSNBC is my favorite right now. Not that it's all that great, but it's better than the bullshit Fox shovels and the stupidity that CNN deals in.

That's the lowest of low bars and doesn't make MSNBC any less damaging to the brain.

Answer, He want’s to the next head lawyer for Trump.

You need to be in good shape to do TV anyway. It adds like 10lbs to your face. I have done TV quite a few times like Bloomberg, CNBC and local TV.
Man... I was shocked how disgustingly fat I looked. (I have never done any TV interviews since. Only written/radio interviews now.)

Avenatti is a relentless self-promoter, and TV news definitely sucks, but he's a far more effective advocate than anyone Trump's got, and he keeps being the source of actual news. I just clicked on the TV to catch some election news and found him making news about huge post-election payments to Michael Cohen by AT&T, a big health care company, and a Russian oligarch. I don't know what this has to do with Stormy Daniel's case, but it's front page news.

More on Avenatti. I'd keep my eye on this guy. He's auditioning for something.

He probably is one of those guys who is bored with his day job and has interests in many areas. Adrenaline junkie.
I suspect he is gunning for a TV job or running for public office in the near future. Build his personal brand first and its free via TV like Trump.

Oh. Yeah, that makes more sense than what I posted.

The snark in me says it's hard to go wrong when we latch on to a relentless self-promoter. What could go wrong?

Snark II says why is he among the most effective anti-Trump articulators and why are the 'establishment' Democrats mealy-mouthed and ineffectual in comparison? Well, maybe not 'why', but more like, that's disappointing.

Non-snark genuine curiosity asks how Avenatti keeps finding the news for which he's the source.

By the way, what's the 'enlightened' view on Stormy Daniels? Is it inappropriate to look down our noses at porn stars? What's the most favorable argument in her favor for newsworthiness and for hitching a wagon to her star?

Lots of folks have clearly done so. Is that just blinkered and partisan expediency or is it better than that?

Why would we look down our noses at porn stars?

I mean, I don't think you should look down your nose at anyone based on their profession.

That said, the people who look down their noses at porn stars aren't doing it to attack their profession. They are doing it to attack the validity of their claims that people behaved inappropriately. "Oh those women are porn stars; they should have expected it." That's the argument we get. And, no, we absolutely shouldn't do that. And we shouldn't need to be "enlightened" to realize that.

There's abundant reason for snark, but speaking as a partisan, I'm happy that Avenatti is taking Trump on, because I think Democratic candidates are better off talking about how Republicans are screwing the middle class in favor of the wealthy by cutting rich people's taxes and taking away ordinary people's health insurance. And I had the same question you did: How in the wide world of sports did Avenatti get access to Cohen's financial records?

Stepping back a bit, the President of the United States can scarcely find any competent lawyers to represent him, but a porn star can get a killer like Avenatti. If I were Trump I'd look at Avenatti the way a younger me used to look at Brian Cardinal -- a player I simultaneously detested and wished he were on my team.

If the President were a smart man, he'd be considering reasons why he can't get competent counsel.

Maybe he will run for President? The debate with Trump would be very, very interesting if he got the Democratic nomination don’t you think?

My take on Stormy Daniels is that she's a pretty cold fish for a porn star, but she's newsworthy because the President of the United States is a sleazeball, not because she is. She's getting much more than her 15 minutes (thanks to her lawyer), but that's because Trump is a deeply compromised person -- vulnerable to porn stars, Vladimir Putin, and Mueller only knows who else.

He's on TV so Trump sees him, daily. Trump lives in TV world. If Trump sees him, Trump tweets.

When Trump tweets, he steps on his own ass so much it makes Avenetti's job much easier.

That and/or he's a grandstander that loves the attention..

Nixon also had to deal with a pornstar of sorts. Deepthroat.

I'm not suggesting that Stormy Daniels is a sleazeball.

But is her profession relevant at all? If not, what does it mean that Trump is vulnerable to porn stars? Why is that a thing?

Beyond her profession, and much like Karen McDougal, are their claims inspiring? They're not alleging that they were harassed or treated inappropriately, are they? Aren't they both basically alleging that they should be able to talk as much as they want about the sex they had with a married guy and that their previous agreements to stay quiet about it are oppressive? I agree Trump is a sleazeball, but that doesn't mean that either of them are great heroes, does it?

As I said above, her profession shouldn't be a difference maker, but in real life it is, and that is exactly why it is a big deal that the President is vulnerable to one.

Stormy Daniels and the other women filing legal actions strike me as gold diggers, and Trump strikes me as the sort of guy who likes gold diggers. Thus I expect to see more gold diggers. Because that's who our president is. A gold digger guy. I don't see any nobility anywhere in that.

Trump is a man with many secrets he'll demonstrably pay to keep. The point isn't so much that we should be offended by these secrets, but that he is. This makes him vulnerable, because he's led a life of wretched excess that can't withstand the scrutiny that the President of the United States will inevitably face. (Gee, Trump supporters, I wish someone could have seen that coming.)

I wonder if the big question people will one day ask is: "WTF was Donald Trump thinking when he decided to run for President?" (This was among the questions I asked about John Edwards.)

I know how easy and typically pointless it is to call other people idiots, but I suspect there's a good reason that his closest cabinet members reportedly broke protocol and used just those sorts of adjectives for DJT. They might have been narrating, not venting.

This is probably not terribly relevant,in the grand scheme of things. But on a personal level, I was struck by how Avenatti seems to intersect with 2 primary interests of my life...

When I checked out his twitter,it showed 31 mutual people I follow who also follow Avenatti. From the world of College basketball these include Pete Thamel,Adam Zagoria,Gary Parrish,Seth Davis, and Ken Bikoff. In addition a number of mutual Springsteen fans,as well as both Amy Lofgren (Nils wife) and Maureen Van Zandt.

I think Trump was more surprised than anyone that he won. I think he assumed his past would catch up to him and he wouldn’t be elected. It was as astonishing to him as it is to me that evangelicals suddenly proclaimed him the man that God put in place to run the free world. What I have always said is going to bring Trump down is not his women, ( even though the fact that no one cares how many women he sexually harassed is infuriating) but his finances. The money laundering rumors have been rampant since his financial troubles in the 90’s and it appears Mueller has a line on these. Trump may end up wishing he’d never run if that’s all discovered. His main base won’t care and will make excuses ( doesn’t everyone launder money?) but I think enough borderline voters will be disgusted it may make a difference.

Whenever I hear someone calling trump “the leader of the free world”, I cringe. Trump isn’t leading anyone. The U.S. isn’t “leading” anyone anymore.

Is there some knowledge base or newsworthy information he has access to that we can't get anyplace else and that needs to be expanded on every day?

My tin foil hat tells me Avenatti is the alter ego of somebody in the DOJ. He seems to have access to the bank records and other fruits of the raids on Cohen’s home and office.
