Filing Austin and New Orleans under "cultural wastelands". Got it.
So here we have upper middle class degreed professionals from Pleasant Valley talking about homelessness, addiction, and "choices". I don't know whether to kick the cat or vomit.
Tell that to Boeing, McDonalds, MillerCoors, Suntory, ConAgra, KrafHeinz, Motorola, United and about 50 other major companies that have moved to downtown Chicago over the last 10 years.

Millennials are moving to downtown Chicago in droves. I can see 6 new skyscrapers going up from the window of my apartment right now. We have the best restaurants in the country outside of New York, and a beautiful lakefront.

It’s an exciting place to live.
I love the city of Chicago, visit it often, and yes plenty of young people want to live there, it's a great place to live in your 20s....But those are lists of companies moving from the burbs to Downtown....not companies new to the state of Illinois.
And Millennials aren't staying once they hit their 30s.

And the most outbound moves in the nation,

Lots of departures. Also, once kids are in the picture, it makes it much more difficult to live in the city.
You just described most major American cities.
KA-BOOM! Indy gets mass transit:

This has been a fun thread to read - minimal sniping, lots of good points. FWIW, I was born in Indy (a LOOOOOONG time ago), lived there overall for 6 years broken up in two stints 30 years apart, and still visit there regularly with family that lives in Z-ville, so I'm pretty familiar with the area, but not really biased one way or another.
Indy's very affordable, easy to navigate, and is close to a number of really good schools. The culture is ..... midwestern. To some (me), that's a positive, to others, not so much, so that's a wash. There's some public transit, but traffic in Indy is essentially non-existent, especially taken in the context of cities like DFW, Chicago, and Atlanta.
What I think damages Indy's chances most is the airport. I live in South Bend (again), and the airport in Indy is not much bigger (or more effective) than the airport here. You have to fly somewhere else to get pretty much anywhere. In the end, that will eliminate Indy for a company that literally wants to dominate the globe like Amazon.
As some here have said, I think Northern VA is the leader in the clubhouse. If Austin had a better airport, I think this would already be decided, BTW - that airport is strikingly similar to Indy.
As indicated in the article below, Amazon is more likely to select a city in which a majority favor bringing in the HQ2 vs one where only a third do.What developments? This is simply a poll of people like yourself that comment on whether or not they want HQ2.

Mankato, for 18 years.Good thoughts. IIRC, you previously lived in Rochester, MN or Mankato?
