He is developing a drug that will save lives and save this country millions upon millions of dollars because it would eliminate many of the complications that can occur due to diabetes including blindness, amputations, and heart disease. This country spent about 300 billion in diabetes related medical costs in 2022.

This was a dumb move.

1) From the article in the other thread: "Even grants that have been awarded but not spent are supposed to be halted". Money has already been spent based upon the knowledge that the federal grant money had already been approved (from my understanding, this one was several million dollars). Research has ongoing expenses. If the grant money is delayed, the department will eat those 90 days of expenses (which could literally be 2 million if the grant was for 8 mil for example).

2) I have very little faith in the federal government being capable of completing tasks in 90 days. Court fights that start and stop it could reset the 90 days and turn it into 270.

3) Even if they do pull off an analysis of every government grant in the next 90 days, it is very possible that Trump is trying to cut funding across the board and is using the DEI / Transgender excuse as his reason. In the end though, it wouldn't surprise me if he ends up taking 20% off of all of them just so that he can point to it and say "See, look, I am saving the American public money". While I am not against the concept, this is one area that I feel strongly should not be included. I have little faith that Trump shares that opinion.
