Which Hoosier on our roster has the best shot

Ballo is the best true center in the Big Ten by a wide margin, if they go by positions and not just the top 5 players. His only competition really is Ivisic for Illinois and Bittle for Oregon, but it's too early to tell. Dawson Garcia is probably the best player capable of playing center, and maybe Owen Freeman if he keeps this up, but Ballo is really the only proven true center right now.

But Mack probably has the best chance to make the All-B10 team because I think he can keep up this 20+ ppg pace.

In order...

Ballo
Mgbako
Reneau
Rice

I think its unlikely Rice gets it over Smith. So PG v PG, pretty unlikely. He could get it as a 2nd guard, but the Illinois foreign kid will be tough to beat out, Thornton from OSU, Harper at Rutgers, amongst others.

Reneau and Mack will have competitive numbers, but again, they're going to be competing with guys like Sandfort, Bailey, Garcia, etc...

Ballo, if he averages close to a double double, will likely be viewed as the best true "center', and that could get him in over some of other bigs that will be considered.

If all goes according to plan...
*1st Team - Mgbako
*Somewhere between 2nd Team and Honorable Mention - Reneau, Rice, Ballo
*Def. POY - Ballo
*6th Man of the Year - Galloway
*Freshman 1st Team - Tucker

Conceivably, IU has FOUR players with 1st Team All-B1G potential. No excuses, Woody.

Bonus Prediction...
*AAC 1st team - Kaleb Banks

This is a tough one. You don't really know what you have until you face higher levels of competition. The one player that is getting numbers and playing hard on both sides of the ball is Rice. He looks like the most sustainable. As far as far as elevating their game, Ballo looks like he's holding back a bit right now, being used improperly a bit. He could. Mgbako will probably have stretches where he is very good and will be engaged, but may disappear and be disinterested for stretches, especially on the defensive end.

If Ballo isn't playing hard, or is holding back, and he improves his numbers going forward as a result...he'll contend for National POY. As it stands, he's averaging 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 blocks a game.

If he continues with those types of numbers, I would say he's definitely most likely to get All Conference First Team. Rice will have to beat out Smith, Thornton, Harper, Illinois' new foreign guard, etc... Mack and Malik will have Sandfort, Bailey, Garcia, amongst others. Not nearly as many centers for Ballo to have to stand out against. They obviously don't always pick true centers for first team, but there would be a good chance they would if Ballo keeps averaging what he is. I think IU would probably also have to be a competitive team as well though too.

Looking at Evan Miya Player Box BPR ratings, Ballo(5 year player) is rated at 49th in the Big Ten. So I would say a big fat NO to NPOY. I would say at this point, Queen(freshman) will get more headlines than Ballo, Queens skill set is twice as good as Ballos. It's funny right now, Penn State has 5 players in the top 25 in the Box PBR, most of any BT teams, they have played an easy schedule, but they are performing. Ace Baldwin could be player of the year!

lol ... BPR.

I would say Rice between scoring and assists Mgbako can score but worried about his consistency and effort.
