Phinisee was been back before his illness and Green played against Troy. I am assuming Phinisee isn't starting right now because Archie doesn't want to push him too hard too early. It sounds like his issue could be around for a while.

While Green played, it will take him time to get back in shape and work his way into the lineup. I would guess a week or more likely 2 weeks before he is ready to play a bigger role.

Does Phinisee continue to come off the bench until he can start with Green, or will he be coming off the bench the entire year if everyone stays healthy? My thought is that when Green is healthy, Phinisee can start and bring Durham in early for him and get Franklin or Damezi in at the other guard to give Rob time on the bench. It is important to get off to a good start in the first and second half and have our best players available for the last 5 - 10 minutes.

I don't want to mess up what is working, but I believe Archie will want to see what guard combination plays the best together before he locks in a starting unit. My expectation is it will include Phinisee and Green from offensive and defensive production. We haven't suffered with turnovers or a lack of assists, so Archie might go with a different lineup than expected.

What does our long term starting back court look like to you and how long does Archie take to lock it in?

What are the lingering issues holding Pinisee back from being on the floor??? Is it lingering pain, lack of stamina or mental fatigue or a complex combination of other symptoms???

The first few games Phinisee was on limited minutes due to recovering from an abdominal injury. Last game he was out with strep throat.

Abdominal issue scares me as being a long term nagging injury potentially for Phinisee's entire Soph. season? Green should work his way back into the lineup within two weeks to a month. DeRon just may never be 100% as a Hoosier. Both Seniors are injured.

Our best lineup will be Phin, Green, Durham, Smith and TJD.

that seems clear, for now at least. We should annihilate teams with a smaller quick lineup in the cupcake portion of the schedule. It will be interesting to see if we play a three guard lineup with smith at the four once we enter conference play. Obviously we are a deep team, with lineup flexibility. That lineup show chew through smaller teams, especially poor defensive teams. But, at some point this team will be tested in more of a half court, grind it out game.

The big ten doesn’t scare me this year , but I don’t like a schedule that has no road games until Madison.

That will be a good lineup, but I would rather see Thompson or Brunk start and have a fresh Durham come off the bench. We shouldn't have any problems scoring with RP, Green, Smith, and TJD in the game. I would rather bring a guy in that can score when Green or RP needs to come out of the lineup. We have had a lull at times when we go to the bench. Al would step in and keep things going.

There isn't a need to use Al's minutes up early. You always need a guy in the lineup looking to do the dirty work. Brunk and Thompson seem to be that type of player. One of them should be in the game all the time.

When everyone is healthy...

Starters:
Durham
Green
Smith
TJD
Brunk

Subs:
1. Phinisee for Brunk
2. Hunter for Green
3. Thompson for Smith
4. Davis for TJD
5. Franklin for Durham
6. Damezi for Hunter

Phinisee
Green
Durham
Smith
TJD

That moves Durham to the three, Smith to the four, and TJD to the five. Each can play there, but there could be difficult defensive matchups for Smith and Durham.
I agree. I am not terribly enthusiastic about Smith playing the 4 again this year, but it looks like that will be the situation.

Phinisee is in load management protocol.

It’s going to come down to matchups. Brunk played well tonight, and if he keeps that up and gets better, you won’t see him riding much pine.

He does well against traditional posts. There will be a lot of those coming up.

Sorry Princeton faded in the 2nd half. Bet you thought it was gonna be your time to shine, psycho.
Why would any long-time season ticket holder, like myself, ever wish for IU to lose?
I want IU to win every game...every year.

We are splitting hairs, but Durham can really play this year. I don’t know how he doesn’t start.

I agree BUT, IMO, the team just runs better when RP is the point. When he went down last year I think you saw his importance. IMO, Durham is an off guard.

Who can go off for twenty on any given night. Anyway, it's not "last year" - very very different Team. Personally looking forward to Aljami, Devonte and Robert on the Floor at the same time. Al had six assists last night and zero TOs - almost like having three scoring PGs on the Floor at the same time.

Al's been outstanding offensively. His shooting looks amazing, so soft with great rotation. I'm going to be surprised if he shoots less than 88% from the free throws.

He's got to pick it up defensively though. He's been surprisingly bad for his level of experience.

He's not quick enough for quick guards right now and he's not big enough to guard three's right now.

I'm really digging Justin at the three, especially defensively who is definitely big enough to guard the Wheelers, Dosumu's and Wieskamp's.

In Al’s defense, for what he lacks in foot speed he can make up for in length. He plays low so it’s easy to forget he is 6’4” until he erases one off the glass. He has improved a lot in coordination, but he’s still not in full control of his body. Either way, he could get away with giving up a step if learns to use his length to challenge passes and shots.
