And can't get one. Has CTA given him until the coaching conference coming up? What then? Would CTA and the athletic department bite the bullet and can Hiller? Or would CTA and Bell try to muddle through with an OL coach that is clearly a lame duck?
I know many on this board are looking for a Hiller departure like Peoples and Warren - clean, quick replacement with someone qualified (Wilt would have to grow some in DC role) but Hiller may be a special case.
Telling people to look for another job without a clear ultimatum leading to termination sounds messy. Perhaps no ultimatums on "finding a job" were given to Warren and Peoples, but they just found them on their own after being told their performance was lacking. And Hiller, while told he didn't do the job, even though that in itself would be telling him to find another job, maybe isn't even looking but is willing to work through to the end of his contract?
Yes, it would be uncomfortable for Hiller, and perhaps a bit cancerous to the LEO culture, but it might be more uncomfortable to him to lose a year of salary that is probably more than he could make anywhere else that would hire him. Also, Hiller doesn't look like he is in the greatest shape physically which beyond the obvious coaching skill shortcomings, could also limit his prospects for being hired elsewhere. Neither Warren nor Peoples looked like they had potential health problems.
I'd like to hope that this strategy of encouraging folks to leave is a good one, but frankly I have never seen how encouraging contracted employees to leave who do not have performance clauses in their contracts (I assume Hiller doesn't have one or he'd be gone already) works. Now I could be wrong and Hiller may have a performance clause and there has been no announcement to allow time for Hiller to find another job. We'll see.
