i Think any diplomatic pressure came from the EU, not the US. The Europeans are in the lead here. There are several reasons why the EU is more relevant than the US, but one of those reasons is our highly placed officials on at least two occasions bringing up climate change in the context of the Russian invasion and sanctions. According to CoH, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, and Finland have all broken with long standing historical doctrine and took firm anti-Putin positions. The USA? We don’t even seem to be an effective cheerleader.
So thanks at least partly to Trump, the rest of the free world is more than picking up the slack as the U.S. under Biden encourages and applauds their participation. I'd say Biden's cheer leading has been effective according to CoH's post..
