What does “leader of the free world” mean these days?

Obama didn’t apologize for being American. That’s an absurd caricature of the truth. Obama spoke to 1 billion Muslims from Egypt. That’s the leader of the free world speaking to entire nations that weren’t fully part of the free world, to put it mildly.

I think your and COH’s definition of leader of the free world alloys the purest definition. You tell me but it seems like you’re adding something like American exceptionalism. Our founders had no such addition.

Free means free for all people with inalienable rights. The free world is represented by those principles, dreams, and visions. POTUS is still TLOFW because more or less all people on planet earth carry the belief that America is the beacon on the hill for freedom despite all our warts and flaws.

And addressing our warts and flaws in the process of creating a more perfect union does not mean we are apologizing for being American. The exact opposite is the truth. We Americans are free and thus have the strength and courage to apologize for our warts and flaws and set about correcting them and making them better. Those who are afraid to apologize are The same ones who lack the courage to create a more perfect union.

If Biden was any kind of a leader, he'd have slapped sanctions on Russia as soon as Putin started threatening Ukraine.
This is laughable coming from you. You never said anything remotely critical of Putin until this week.

You might want to check the US Congress and UN authorizations on the Iraq invasion before putting the blame on Bush.

Or our own intelligence agencies.
Don't want to derail the thread, but never bought "weapons of mass destruction" as the true motivation for the Bush intervention. It was a big lie. The Democrats, to their eternal damnation, played along with it for political reasons. Bush was a disaster.

We will have to wait for the State of the Union speech to find that out.I am positive President Biden has many options he can use.
FFFFF Biden and his State of Union address. I have used cancel culture on that clown. Don't listen to anything he spews, That that will just be a bunch of noise from an angry old demented individual.

I'm not saying he wasn't a disaster. I'm saying it wasn't all on him.

He relied on our intelligence agencies and they let him down.

I like the fact that the Europeans are in charge here. Biden has F***ed up everything he's ever touched in the foreign policy arena, And you cannot trust a word that the man says.

He bought the bad intel as did many Dems but W was far from a disaster overall.

Damn you have great connections, you know for a 100% FACT there has been no US diplomatic pressure on any of these countries.

I know many believe diplomacy happens only in public while boasting about oneself, but real diplomacy happens quitely in back rooms.
i Think any diplomatic pressure came from the EU, not the US. The Europeans are in the lead here. There are several reasons why the EU is more relevant than the US, but one of those reasons is our highly placed officials on at least two occasions bringing up climate change in the context of the Russian invasion and sanctions. That’s just silly. Another reason is that a demented Biden simply does not inspire respect and authority .

You think, can you provide any proof of that? Weren't we one of the first to announce sanctions? On SWIFT, Biden said "That's not the position that the rest of Europe wishes to take". And originally Germany spoke against it. I don't know what happened behind the scenes, I would bet that you have no clue either. It is possible we didn't do crap. It is possible we were twisting arms like crazy. But you are certain it is the former simply because it fits your worldview with no possible evidence whatsoever. If you have it, present it.

Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, and Finland have all broken with long standing historical doctrine and took firm anti-Putin positions. The USA? We don’t even seem to be an effective cheerleader.

What Putin is doing to Ukraine is unspeakably awful. Civilians are now being slaughtered, apparently deliberately. Our foreign policy brain trust is cloistered behind a wall of silence.. Biden sends Jen Psaki to the Sunday Show to talk about this? Biden was in his weekend basement and lord knows where Harris is. The rest of the free world is way ahead of us on this, taking taking risks, and changing history. The USA? Shamefully we are stuck on climate change dogma, lukewarm sanctions riddled with loopholes, and ‘we stand by Ukraine” platitudes.
Putin doesn't want a NATO member next door to him. The problem is NATO won't protect Ukraine who wants to join their club.

This thread represents how in the free world with democratically elected leaders and opposition parties an elected president can face criticism.

In contrast in a dictatorship such as Russia there’s just one leader who has total control over the party and the country.

So some of us can complain about our president and say our country is leaderless. Meanwhile in Russia those complaining about Putin are being arrested along with their entire future facing complete utter despair.

You never said anything critical of Putin until this week because your orange crush never said anything critical of Putin until this week.
The sudden rush of trumpians to criticize Putin and post memes on their facebook site after their leader gave him a reach around in the WH is ironic as hell.

Try to stay on topic, danc. It's now, finally, okay for you to hate Putin because your cult leader just greenlighted it.
Moron. Trump kept Putin at bay while he was President. Your boy is so weak, Putin attacked because he knew Biden is impotent - just like those who voted for him.

Ah, this all adds up now 🤣 Thank you so much for confirming the assumptions I already had about you. Makes things so much easier on everyone. Much appreciated.

You're welcome, "skippy". Run along now and leave the adults alone.

Yeah... yeah, thanks for proving the point yet again. This is adorable 😘
Blowing me a kiss?

Sorry, dude, that's not how I roll. Sorry to disappoint you. I wish you luck, though, finding your special person.

DANC, didn't Trump want our NATO allies and others to step up to the plate and not rely so much on The U.S.?

According to CoH, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, and Finland have all broken with long standing historical doctrine and took firm anti-Putin positions. The USA? We don’t even seem to be an effective cheerleader.

So thanks at least partly to Trump, the rest of the free world is more than picking up the slack as the U.S. under Biden encourages and applauds their participation. I'd say Biden's cheer leading has been effective according to CoH's post..
