What did Fauci need pardoned for?

I'm a working man, I actually work with my hands to pay the bills...yes, there's still a few of us out here. Anyway, since I'm no lawyer, how in the world can someone be pardoned if they've never been charged with a crime??

That loophole needs to be closed...

Given that the pardon power comes straight from the Constitution, I wouldn't hold my breath.

It's not without precedent (obviously, Nixon...but there have apparently been some other ones). However, it's been fairly rare. But, whew boy, not this time. Not only has Biden handed out a bunch of preemptive pardons, they're very broad in scope. The ones that I've read through cover any (non-violent) crimes dating all the way back to January 1, 2014.

One thing pardons can't do is offer any kind of immunity going forward.

I suppose that a really deep dive investigation into everything can still be completed. Then release everything, with no redactions, to the public and scream it from the roof tops. Let the court of public opinion take it from there. Heavy doxing could be as bad a prison.
But the Right is just supposed to lay back and take it I suppose.

The one person Biden didn't pardon is the Big Guy. If the Pubs want to go scorch earthed I guess he's available.

Whoever is actually making those decisions knows he'd be declared Incompetent to be able to stand trial... besides they're not worried about him, they only care about themselves...

They'd best worry about the Chinese and some of the other outfits they promised big results to... Nobody likes to be hustled... Joe couldn't remember where he was much less what he was supposed to do for them...

I’m entirely open to the idea that the virus leaked from the lab. In fact, I think it’s more likely than not.

But I seriously doubt that the United States was paying to co-develop a bioweapon with China in one of their BSL-4 virology labs.
Bioweapon is a loaded term that attaches malicious intent. What Fauci denied under oath is the funding of gain of function research. He was playing a semantics game. SARS-CoV-2 and what was being funded at the Wuhan institute of virology fits any reasonable definition of gain of function research. Which Obama supposedly outlawed .

Weapon is a term with a pretty precise meaning.

I can’t say for sure. But I’d be really shocked to learn that we were pursuing the virus as a weapon.

My understanding is that theoretically gain of function research can teach us ways to fight news viruses. Not necessarily that it is intended to be used as a weapon.
Yes, precisely.

I won’t say that it’s without some controversy in that world. After all, the Obama administration had its reasons for suspending the funding of it.

But the purposes of the research are clearly epidemiological.

And simple common sense would tell us that, if either we or China were going to develop a bio-weapon, neither of us would be doing it in conjunction with an adversary.

No, if there was an effort to conceal this, the two most plausible explanations of it are:

1) To avoid the fallout of the outbreak having been the result of a leak of the experimental viral strains

2) That funding was continuing when it was supposed to have been paused
