Well....now what?

IU is 19-13 and 10-10. That's not a disaster, even though you don't like it.

If we cancel the remaining game(s), it would look amateurish and, well, weird. Then, what decent players left on the roster would stick around? And what decent players in the portal would want to come to a bizarre university that cancels a season just because a couple fans said the season (19-13 and 10-10) was "shit". No one respects crybabies and quitters.

Besides, we already went through a complete rebuilding in Crean's first 3-4 years. That's no fun.
Got it Mike. Preseason Top 15. Picked by some to, get this--WIN the B10. Consensus Top 4 B10 pick.

Finish in 9th, and on the bubble.

Naaaah..All is good.

If the season can end and they can get a coach who can start rebuilding before the new NIL rules go into effect, then that is preferabe. I am not going to throw shade at any individual players, but I will move on with my life if I never see this group play again.

IU has a platform. They will continue to benefit regardless of how this season concludes. The players deciding whether or not to come will do it based off NIL. NIL will be there. How do I know this? Our fan base is still here and driving ratings after 25 years of mediocrity. A portiom of our fan base signed up to bring in talent w their economic resources knowing that they would be playing for Mike Woodson.

Just end it,good grief. Why anyone wants to see more of that this year is beyond me.
Hopefully the new coach can bring some shooters with him.
I wish there were a way to gracefully end this. If we make the NCAA then we will lose the play in game. If we go to a lesser tournament we will lose there. The only graceful ending would be at least 2-1 in the NCAA and I believe that to be impossible.

NIL or not, the comparison is still valid. You're proposing we all have coaches that hire strippers. You must be a politician.

Humans are still judging other humans, and the other humans still have the right not to transfer to a weird university that cancels a game (earning both millions of dollars and phenomenal national TV exposure desired by the potential transferor and his parents to enhance all their net worth simply for them and their son to put on the jersey of the new school), especially when the weird university has a winning record of 13-10 at the time.

Quality players might not want to go to a weird school. That's what Crean ran into.
No the comparison to Cream is not valid. It shouldn’t take 4 yrs to rebuild a program like IU. Not today.

No. You're 100% wrong. It's not all good. You (not me) are the one that said it's all good. I have no idea why you would say a thing like that.

All I said is that we shouldn't cancel the remaining games which almost certainly will generate millions of dollars for IU and some goodwill to give the new coach some appeal to begin recruiting players from the portal.

Your attitude is a lot like saying, "Please move to Chernobyl!! We just got rid of everyone, so no traffic!!"

Shouldn't? Does that mean anything?

Show your work.

How many teams that were ranked 50-70 at the end of 2023-24 are ranked in the Top 15 right now?

Let's start there first, and then you can persuade us that the reason for the advancement of all the teams you come up with (maybe) is due to the NIL and portal.

Lunardi has them first out after the loss. Texas jumped in. If Boise St. wins tonight, they will probably be move up to first out. They will turn down an NIT bid.

Who’s “us” ? And when I present my math, can I include a variable for shitty coaching? My argument is that a program can be rebuilt much faster than circa 2009

'disaster' is subjective. But with the NIL spent, it's downright shitty ROI.

Can't compare to Crean rebuild. That was pre-NIL, pre portal. That was the stone age of college Bball.
Look what Pitino did at St John's....year 2 and they are at 30+ wins.

I've never been a Pitino fan but will admit, if we had hired him 10+ years ago there would likely be 2 fresh banners hanging in the Hall, and IU ball would be the place to be today. pains me to say that. but hard to deny.
Would have had to be vacated. And iu would have been on probation again after sampson.

It's not my fault that you don't know how to express a rational thought.

No reason to think you didn't write your response last week and save it.
Again...You on shrooms? And bad thing js..I could have wrote a response in November (about season_Woodson), amd it would be accurate today. It's the same show.

When you're a preseason. Top 15 team(actually #13)..picked anywhere from 3rd, to WINNING the B10--Amd you finish 9tj...and on the NCATT bubble (likely out)..that's a disaster. What else is it?

As for that silly new tournament…..“If you wanna CROWN em, then CROWN their ass. But they are who we thought they were.” Dennis Green in 2006 speaking about Indiana basketball in 2025.

Woody put too much trust into Rosemond and it cost him his job.
IU was something like 9-1 in the games Rosemond scouted this year. Oregon 1 being the first loss of the season.

fwiw - I don't really care I just wanted to make you look dumb. Quit making up stupid shit and presenting it fact.

No NIL with Crean's rebuild. You don't have to look any farther than Lville and UK for what can be done with a complete rebuild now with NIL.

Haven't looked it up, but UK and Lville jump to mind. UK is 15 in ESPN poll and Lville 13th. Our results and program are no worse than what either of them faced and they did a complete rebuild. If the new coach wants current players to stay, I would imagine some will. They'll get more NIL here than anywhere else. And if they don't, then we will get experienced players in the portal and Sisley is coming in, and we still have the other commit (no idea if he'd still come). Personally, I think I want Rice and Carlyle to stay just to see what a good competent coach could do with them. Rice shows flashes every game that he has a good player inside of him and Carlyle did at times to begin the season before he got mind f'd.

Nobody thinks that IU decides what to do based on what people on this board or any fan forum say.

It's just weird, you have these Crown games that are at the very end of March and into April, we're getting a new coach. Would the new guy coach those games? Hardly possible, he would have only days/weeks to get here and even get to know our players. Most of our team will be in the portal by then. I'd guess we would just have to decline, for logistical reasons.
Galloway is up for Vegas.

What web site lists which assistant coach scouted which games? Just curious.

I'd like Mgbako and Tucker to stay too, for the same reason, but I doubt they will.

And I'd like Reneau to come back, too, so long as we recruit other new bigs. There were a couple times yesterday against Oregon, when I thought it looked like Reneau didn't jump very well to go for a rebound. I thought he might not be fully recovered yet from his earlier leg injury.

Was he still wearing that knee brace? I was only listening on the radio and don't recall any mention of it.

Nobody? What about the fans of the NBA teams he coached? They universally loved him?
Was posting about what IU fans thought about Woodson prior to taking the IU job.
I have no idea what NBA fans thought of him.

Oh, yeah most IU fans probably thought very favorably about him before he was hired as coach. He was an all-time great player here.

do we still make it to Dayton?
Does it even matter?
Will any IU crowd even make the short drive?
Can anyone provide a reason to care that the season continues?

Or does everyone now just pivot to the big reveal. Start your engines, Mr Dolson. You're about to become the only face that matters.
Shut it down. Hardly anyone cares.

Yeah, the players are irrelevant. They are secondary to the fans.
let them play, and I hope they win. . It's just difficult to care after all these yrs, with the disappointment of this season and the pending new coach reveal. Don't root against them. It's just a weird moment in time to be an IU bball fan. Will be over soon one way or another. Then we'll see what happens.

Yes, he was wearing a huge knee brace, and he grabbed it a couple times during the game to adjust it. It wouldn't let me copy the photo to post, but there is a great photo of that brace at this link under Photo Gallery if you scroll a little bit:

Edit to add: it looks like ankle to above mid/thigh.

Uh, I think fans were absolutely shocked when Woodson was announced. A totally non-college-coach out of God-knows-how-many other similar ex-IU-players of the same background. You just can't expect college players to play like NBA players without a lot of training, so why hire him?

And, I recall Woodson's bias earlier this season in favor of Carlyle (a semi-flashy player perhaps with NBA potential) and against Leal (a "boring" player with great fundamentals but little discernible NBA potential), along with some other predictable Woodsonesque substitution patterns. It took Woodson much too fricking long to recognize that Leal was far better at winning college games than Carlyle (at his current development).

No rationale person knew for sure what to expect from Woodson (a first time college coach) when announced, but I was surprised how often it looked during the season like Woodson was staring at the floor, apparently befuddled because his players were not playing like the world class NBA players he expected but he didn't know what to do about it.

Woodson had four years as coach to teach his players something to help them win college games (not NBA games). What did he teach them? You tell me.

The departure of Fife and Matta plus the apparent shunning of Bryson Tucker make me wonder a lot about Woodson's social skills. I'm not sad that Woodson is leaving, but I want IU to win all its remaining NCAAT games.
