That is a good question. I haven’t heard of an academic issue anywhere for some timeThere were drugs under crean also. And as far as academics do they even go to class anymore or just take online tests? Nobody is ever ineligible anymore ever.

I never heard him referred to as Pocahontas. That is ignorant on several levels.I come from this time you speak of, this “back then”. No one thought he was Black. IU fans didn’t make a big deal about the Indian part either. Coming from Oklahoma, it made sense once we finally heard he had some “Pocohontas” blood coursing through his veins. We just considered him “one of us”, now go win some games. I think only Adam Herbert cared about his supposed “minority” status.
I had never heard on the level of such a highly positioned public servant as Elizabeth Warren referred to as “Pocahontas” until she tried to pass herself off as American Indian to her constituents. Cherokee Nation wasted no time in calling her out on that fat-assed lie. It’s been said you can still hear their laughter when teepee flaps are opened. Betty “Redskin” Warren they call her in the casinos.I never heard him referred to as Pocahontas. That is ignorant on several levels.
So many from Oklahoma have some Native American blood but Elizabeth has very little. I know some of my relatives always wanted to claim that we had some Indian blood but DNA show not a drop. I remember several kids when I was in grade school claiming they had Indian blood but I doubt that they did! either.I had never heard on the level of such a highly positioned public servant as Elizabeth Warren referred to as “Pocahontas” until she tried to pass herself off as American Indian to her constituents. Today it’s considered hip to have some Native Indian DNA. “Betty”Warren has a long history of falsifying applications to her advantage. So many from Oklahoma have some Native American blood but Elizabeth has very little. That is warren not sampsonI never heard him referred to as Pocahontas. That is ignorant on several levels.
Our guys played hard for him too. There didn't seem to be any underlying team problems until everything hit the fan.Strange that Sampson seems to get 100% from his Houston players with no indication of underlying team problems.
Dakich certainly did not help the issue. He thought being tough was the way to go but all he did was destroy any chance we still had in the tourneyOur guys played hard for him too. There didn't seem to be any underlying team problems until everything hit the fan.

Not sure if it was a final four team but it was pretty darn good team like 22-3 before sampson got let go. I have no doubt he would of had a final four team at IU in the next few years though. And he was bringing in guys that could not be issues like elston and pritchard the next year. He probably went for a quick fix those first few years but if IU had just done an NC thing thing who knows. Bud Mackey will be brought up but he would never have set foot on campus. Either way houston now is the team to benefit. Good for them. That was a FF team
Under KS, that team was FF good. Not sure if it was a final four team but it was pretty darn good team like 22-3 before sampson got let go. I believe Donald Trump has more Indian blood by percentage than Elizabeth Warren does. They took the DNA test.Today it’s considered hip to have some Native Indian DNA. “Betty”Warren has a long history of falsifying applications to her advantage.
Underlying team problems of players flunking out of school with drug problems only come to light at party schools AFTER their coach has been fired, not while playing for national championships. Today, it’s known in college basketball as “The Indiana Way” with IU now serving as poster child on how to self-destruct a once great basketball tradition of excellence.Strange that Sampson seems to get 100% from his Houston players with no indication of underlying team problems.
Don’t listen to narratives made up by bitter IU fans. If you get a chance listen to Jim Nantz talk about his Alma-matter and Kelvin. What a leader of men he is, how he one of the only coaches left that his players pledge loyalty too. His players don’t enter the transfer portal, they graduate with him. Die for him. Become Houston family. That’s culture.Strange that Sampson seems to get 100% from his Houston players with no indication of underlying team problems.
The IU administration relishes in the punishment of its transgressors. This attitude stems from the pompous nature of their anointed positions, the pecking order of superiority on display.Don’t listen to narratives made up by bitter IU fans. IU is a joke.
Blond haired and blue eyed from a family of blonds with blue eyes and at least one set of grandparents still spoke Swedish. IF she didn't know she was nearly pure scandanavian, she is the biggest moron in congress, and that is saying a lot with the crazy black lady still in congress.I don’t know if she knew she was falsifying her applications but she didn’t check very hard.
I’ve seen him give a couple interviews in Houston and I was ready to go to war for him.Don’t listen to narratives made up by bitter IU fans. Always easy to go back and play Monday morning QB. During those times, what Sampson did was bad. Today, it’s nothing. I think something t that’s also overlooked is how bad it got with the culture of the players, ie drugs, drinking, failing classes, etc. If the environment of 20 years ago surrounding CBB such as NIL were like it is today, it would have been a home in hire. But yes, he effed it up and so did IU.And more than half of you STILL think it was for the better good. If we weren’t allowed a scholarship for a decade it wouldn’t have been worth it. IU the Harvard of the Midwest right boys???
Okay, if the culture of the players was drugs, drinking and failing classes as you say, how bad was the problem then compared to the problem today? Who amongst them was doing what, imbibing what how much and failing what classes? Back up the statement with verifiable facts.Always easy to go back and play Monday morning QB. He was dirty. But over the years, the NCAA has thrown in the towel and now the only thing that is not legal probably is point shaving. They could have not been allowed to play basketball for 5 years, 100% should have kept him. NO1 calls him samscum except IU fans.
no1 thinks he's dirty, He's a HOF coach, and IU fans are complete morons for thinking he is dirty.

I remember a time when IU athletes of higher academic grade point average in each sport were recognized at semester’s end. What happened to that public recognition to make it now something dismissed?

Not only will he likely win tomorrow I bet he wins another one before he retires. Zero chance a school like kansas or Kentucky would have fired sampson and he'd probably still be their coach today. He has 2 top 10 recruits coming in next season and a 3rd in the top 25. He's an elite coach and recruiter. We screwed up royally by not keeping him.

IU avoids penalty with improved APR score
Among the various landmines Kelvin Sampson left in Bloomigton was an APR (Academic Progress Rate) score that was, in a word, unacceptable. Let’s go to the archives from May of 2009: The NCAA released its Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores ...www.insidethehall.com
That’s yesterday in my calendar of never forgotten time. It was unsubstantiated hearsay then, as it remains today. Those rumors only came to light AFTER he was accused. It was a ruse to justify our loss, the tremendous loss we ultimately came to lament 17 years later.Go back to the threads from 17 years ago and you will find it.

The ghost of Kelvin Sampson continues to haunt IU basketball
The NCAA released its Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores this afternoon and the result was a public notice for IU baskeball in response to a score that, well, isn’t pretty. To put it into perspective how low the figure is, ...www.insidethehall.com
