I know it’s results that matter most, but this team is close. We’ve lost close ones to very good teams in Maryland and Purdue. We beat a good (per the NET) team in OSU.

If we’d have closed out the last two, we’d comfortably be in the field.

Badgers aren’t great and they do lose games in their building. Win that one and then take care of business at home against Michigan and UCLA. This team can be a 6-7 seed in the NCAA. And then who knows. The talent is there to make a run b

I appreciate your optimism. You are a glass half full guy. Wrong, but nice view point.

close but no cigar for woody.

that would mean we'd become a top 25/30 team in the country which we're clearly not. not even close. what is our big win?

Per Woody,TN scrimmage and South Carolina. Woodson absolutely doesn’t understand NET. He doesn’t recognize those Quad 4 wins that make his win/loss record look okay, are WORTHLESS when it comes to getting in the Big Dance.

We are #65 in the NET. And the schedule is getting harder. We are not close. At best we somehow make the tourney, but that’s looking less and less likely.

Is this so unrealistic?

L @UW
W MI
L @MSU
W UCLA
W PU
W PSU
W @ WA
L @ OR
W OSU

That would be a 11-9 B10 record. It doesn't require us to play any better than the last two games.

Find a new hobby. Close? Close to 20 turnovers. Close to this team completely imploding. Is it the late night gambling, bar runs, bickering in huddles, walking off the floor after games, pushing opponents, benching of your freshman mcdonalds all american, inability to execute down the stretch, 59/66th offensive and defensive kenpom rating, or losing streak that gives you hope? A 4th season of Woodson, with this payroll, is not acceptable to just be close. The only thing that is close is the removal of Woodson. I will enjoy my idiot sister in law who is a Purdue fan running her mouth today more, than reading about someone who thinks we are close.

That should be the floor..Have we been playing to our potential. Should be very doable.

Of the 5 guys on the floor at the end of the game, 4 had double digit scoring nights and 1 had zero. The guy with zero points rec'd the inbound and didn't look for anyone else. That tells you everything you need to know about the leadership of the team and how not close they really are.

If you need more:
"Indiana head coach Mike Woodson hinted at wanting a timeout but admitted the moment passed too quickly.
'Once [Rice] took off, I couldn’t get to [the official],' Woodson said. 'It was too late. The official had already gone by."'

I mean, really? You couldn't call a timeout in time? The official had already gone by? Isn't the offensive basket on the same side of the court for the team in the second half? Is anyone really buying this bullsh!t?

There is a reason this team panics and collapses late in games. They are not really that close.

Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

20 turnovers and allowed 81 points. 12 turnovers and 70 points would be close.

don't see anyway this team makes the tourney. As in the last 2 games, CMW manages to get guys to not quit, but we are so bad at so many fundamentals, it's impossible to be good. Like running with rocks in your pockets, you might beat someone, but not anyone any good. And, I don't think this is a good Purdue team.

But, Painter is a great coach and he finds ways to make something out of very little. No "good" top 10 team is starting CJ Cox or Caleb Furst. This will be another early tourney exit I'll predict.

I heard him saying that shit and couldn't even muster up any anger. Just shook my head and laughed. How did this guy survive the NY media with BS like that?

We're just a coach and good guards away. This team can't finish games, and there's a reason for it. Trey, Ballo, Goode, and Mgbako had a good game last night, though. Rice got fouled at the end, but he shouldn't have been playing hero ball when he had done nothing the whole game.

And, if you think about it, Purdue isn't that good either. No. 10 team in the country ? No way.

They let us stay in it.

Close to being average..this team won’t be an NCAA team. That isn’t close…woody will be gone and the rebuild will begin next year.

They aren’t very good? They return everyone next year also..
Wins over Bama, Marquette, Ole Miss, Oregon, Maryland and beat Michigan by about 30. The rivalry showed through last night and we kept it close but PU is a good team. Well coached and play hard.

Purdue did not impress.....they aren't a Top 10 team this year. However, they will compete for the B1G and win a game or 2 in the dance....something IU won't.

Don’t kid yourself that things are automatically gonna get better next season. The 1980s are over. Senior leadership is over. College basketball is broken.

Everyone should’ve figured this out when fifth year senior Trey Galloway was playing blackjack at 3 o’clock in the morning the night before a game. This is like junior college basketball, where you get a player for two years if that.

Couldn’t agree more. That team is very average. Maybe in the 25-30 range. Maybe even lower. They’ll end up with a good seed and first weekend exit.

Close because the talent is there, which is why many picked IU to finish top 3-5 in the BIG.

From a Purdue fan's perspective, IU played well and Purdue did not. IU played Purdue bigs 1:1 and forced Purdue off the 3pt line and into the lane. Offensively, IU had more motion, knocked down their outside shots, and Galloway had his way to the rim what seemed like every darn time. Ballo is a beast. It was deafening loud at times and eerily silent at others. All fans yell at fouls against the angelic home teams.

IU has the talent but lack "team cohesion", which mimics the NBA style of play. Not sure that works in college, at least what we knew as college. Now that everyone is paid, it will move to be NBA-lite ball. Uggg.

which mimics the NBA style of play
... from 1990. Seriously, watch some modern day NBA. I don't like it as much because I like the rivalries and collegial feel, but the NBA is superior in every way as far as skill, effort and smarts. It's gotten so, so much better than it was when you probably watched your last game. They move the ball so well, and almost everyone can shoot. They even defend reasonably well when you consider the 80+ game schedule.

it will move to be NBA-lite ball
closest thing in college to the "NBA-Lite" is UCONN, but I can understand why a PU fan wouldn't like that.

Plus, Purdue had impressive losses to PSU and OSU, whom IU beat.

I didn't write "very good." Those are your words.

You lost me at having Trey Galloway as your example of senior leadership.

College basketball is broken, yet all the same familiar faces are still up top. ?

Having a player for a year or two is nothing new.

What’s broken is coaching basketball at IU.

This immediately gets better with a real coach. Ex; Louisville.
