If President Trump's unfavorable ratings are similar to what they were at the end of his first term, Vance has no chance. DeSantis would be favored by a lot over Vance if that's the case.
As much as I’d like to scoff at that, it didn’t escape my attention that DJT threw a bucket of cold water on JD Vance when asked if he saw Vance as his successor.

I’ve made no secret of my low opinion of Mike Pence as a politician. But you Trumpers hate him for the wrong reason.
You shouldn’t hate Pence for January 6th. You should hate Trump for it. All Mike Pence did was properly carry out his duty - which was to the Constitution, not to Donald Trump.

If it were today I'd say...Don Jr but it would be close with Vance. Between now and 2028 though, Vance will do something to make Trump mad. It's pretty easy to do. Vance won't even know what he did. Trump will go all in on Jr. Start calling JD "Vance Vance pee pee pants" or something Presidential like that, and it will be all over.

And that’s a great head to head. I really like both of them. Vance is better orator. DeSantis is probably the single most effective and well doing politician in the country.
We get the candidates we deserve. If we want better candidates, we need to become better voters.

Second term presidents should decline to name successors. That's just common knowledge. You stay out of it until the primary has been locked up, then you endorse.
I really doubt Trump actually possesses that common knowledge. He probably did it just to be petty.
