I don’t think that is as black and white as what many seem to take it as. I feel like that line indicates the he isn’t going to be chasing former 5 stars that have proven to not get it done over lesser known guys that show up on film. It doesn’t mean there is no variance. This guy has played for a top 10 program and if nothibg else will provide valuable depth where it is needed. Between his genes from his dad (Rodney Harrison) and coming from a program like UT, I’d imagine he adds speed.

Agreed. If we didn’t recruit potential we would recruit solely from the transfer portal and not take in any high school kids. When you are talking 1 year and maybe 2 year guys I don’t think you recruit on potential there.
They are going to have to take a few guys from higher profile programs, even if they didn’t have a lot of time and stats. Cig and staff can get them in the system. In the Arizona State-UT game today, you saw kids in that game from other P4 programs who weren’t necessarily starters at their prior school. Leavitt, the QB, was a RS-FR transfer from Michigan State who came in this year with 4 games played and 23 pass attempts. The ASU roster was chock full of transfers with limited experience at their prior P4 schools. I think he’s going to have to mix in some kids that were highly recruited and just didn’t get snaps.
Tons of really good depth guys at schools like Tennessee that could be impactful for IU. Just gotta make sure their heads are in the right place. Which I’m sure Cignetti will be successful, more often than not, at figuring out. Assuming he’s hungry and Cig thinks he’d be a good fit…having Rodney Harrison’s kid thrive in our program could have other benefits.
I think he played slot corner but maybe IU projects him to play Rover where Terry Jones played. He is 6'1".

He's played in 24 games, many in the SEC. He's also got 2 years left.
Not everyone we get will be a three year starter. The coaches trust their evals and if they like the kid, that's good enough for me.
Production over potential is the strategy, but the funny thing is it’s important to know when to break your own rules.
