USC QB Miller Moss hits the portal

My daughter lives in Lynchburg and is a Liberty grad. I’ve seen a few of their games and don’t see Salter as a good fit for Cigs; a little too much of the “too cool for school” attitude and body language. Good mobility (500+ yards rushing) but only 56% passer. Really bad loss year for Liberty versus Kennesaw State.

Cig followed him on Twitter as well as two receivers from FIU and NIU (does not follow a lot of people).

I trust Cig. Moss had an awful OL this year and early in the season handled pressure well.

We all thought Rourke would be a Ramsey-esque game manager. Look at how that turned out.
I didn't know if Rourke was really good. But watching his highlights of some nice downfield balls to Miles Cross, I sure didn't think of game manager. I don't recall hearing that. I get your point though.

I think he’s saying the same thing.

Rourke should learn to capitalize on his lack of mobility. It can be a strength as much as a liability. Let the defense rush and chuck it out of bounds instead of taking a sack. First, it makes the defense work for little in return...second, if they do hit him, there's an even chance for roughing the passer calls. But taking a sack does two things that work against you: you lose yards and the QB takes a hit anyway. Rourke needs to improve in this area.

I second this. He threw for less than 200 yards in more than half their games this season. Went 12-35 for 83 yards and 2 picks in the season finale with a trip to the CUSA championship on the line. Tayven is every bit as mobile with a much bigger arm. I would be very surprised (as well as disappointed) if this is who we decided to roll with next season.

Seriously? Disappointed because Cig might see something you don’t? Pretty big opinion of yourself.

Cig's presser was a bit unusual where he mentioned 'two young QBs we really like' in Cherry and Mendoza as to why no signing of a freshman QB. And then said definitely we would be getting a portal guy.

Some commenters took the no mention of Tayven as meaning he's gone and others as just he's not one of the young guys. I think the second, but find it interesting Coach may not feel Cherry and Mendoza ready if Coach needs a more experienced guy. And/or not sold on Tayven who he didn't mention.

Seems clear Tayven has come a long way at least. And coach said some good things about his play this season. While also at the time not too pleased with the first half of the one game he started. Although if I remember he didn't blame it all on the QB.

I would imagine when we take a portal QB we will lose one and possibly two QB’s
Obviously CCC isn’t sold on TJ or he wouldn’t be taking a portal QB.
He’s not taking one for insurance,in case TJ gets hurt,he has Cherry and Mendoza for that,he’s looking for his starter.

I would actually have been shocked if Cig didn't say he was going into the portal for a QB. Just because we are doesn't mean Jackson might not be QB1. As of now we have 3 QB's, 2 of which have less than probably 20 snaps of college football and then Jackson who's had more time but still limited on experience. Cig has always said what makes teams good is healthy competition at each position. If Jackson is the guy then he will get a chance to earn it in practice. It's not going to just be handed to him and I like that.

I was not impressed wait Kaidon Salter during any of the 3 or 4 times I saw Liberty play this year. I don't think there's anything he does that Tayven Jackson can't do and Jackson has a year+ experience in the system. I believe he is a substantial downgrade from Kurtis Rourke. It's an opinion board....that's my opinion of Salter.

I wouldn’t necessarily assume that he is not sold on Tayven. He may want to build in experience from a “backup” perspective. If Tayven leaves our backup will be a rs FR next year. So, I would want more experience for my backup QB whether that is Tayven or an incoming transfer. Then if one of the younger QBs has a great spring and coaches are comfortable making him a starter or backup that may mean someone will transfer after spring ball.

Well, we can lock this thread. He made a list and we aren’t on it. Michigan, Auburn, Iowa, and Louisville are his finalists per On3.

Cherry and Mendoza are the youth...Tayven is not young and has flashed some skills...
I don't think Cig was discounting Tayven, who is game 1 starter next season...

If memory serves correctly, the majority of the sacks that he has taken have been almost instantaneous where if he throws the ball away, but is not in the vicinity of a receiver, he’s going to get called for grounding. And if he does throw it in the vicinity of a receiver, making a decision that quickly under duress would certainly lead to a greater likelihood of being picked off.
