Truth there. Our elected representatives in Congress decide how much to appropriate for each line item and it's published in the record.
Yet I can't recall any media interest in reporting on any of this "public data".
Because it's boring to most people and they're not interested in it. Many of us would look at these things as part of our jobs. As a senior officer I used to look through the National Defense Authorization Act for each fiscal year to see what Congressional priorities for defense were and then whether or not they were funding them.

Seems to me the American people would like to know if their tax dollars are being use for a trans opera in Columbia. That $47k could have given a year's worth of drinking water to 470 people in Africa. Water or trans opera? Hmmmm.
I concur with rooting waste out, problem is people that we elect to Congress don’t agree on what is waste and what is important.
Incidentally, $47K in terms of the federal budget isn’t even big enough to qualify for a rounding error.
Tell that to the Afican who doesn't get water but a trans gets paid to sing in an opera. Rounding errors can save lives. And adding up all "rounding errors" can add up to real money to affect real people. Probably some homeless vets who would like some assistance with that "rounding error" money.

Again, as easy as that is to do, I don't recall any media stories about USAID spending $2M on trans surgeries in Guatemala.
That's because USAID didn't spend $2M on trans surgeries in Guatemala.
USAID did give $2M to an LGBT organization in Guatemala, and that organization includes among the many things it supports "gender-affirming" healthcare, but the group doesn't actually perform surgeries or anyone. It's just an advocacy group.
For the record, I think this sort of grant was bad policy on Biden's part. But maybe be honest about what it actually was, instead of believing whatever bullshit comes across your newsfeed.
