I wonder if Travis Perry was forced out or saw zero playing time in his future. Surprised since he’s somewhat of a Kentucky high school legend/hero

With every portal entry I think you have to consider they might just be trying to get a bigger NIL payday. I'd have thought a KY kid at UK would have some homegrown NIL appeal, much like Leal did here, but with all their signings I'd guess he's just wondering if he might be able to get a 7 figure payday somewhere. If Cupps supposedly got 7 figures, this kid for sure should be able to,

I’m sure Pope was honest with him. He was probably not getting any time. He’s similar to Cupp.

Crazy that he could have taken a Purdue offer for the better part of a year, then Painter took Cox as he was tired of waiting. Now Perry is in the portal.

He was ALWAYS going to Kentucky. Like would have considered walking on there always going there...

And the only reason he'd go somewhere else now, is if Pope is actually kicking him off the team... and/or if he can get A LOT more money elsewhere. My guess is he'll be back if they have a roster spot for him.

He’s had the UK experience. He could simply just be looking for major minutes

I work with his uncle. I’m not going to ask him but if I hear anything about it I’ll post it.

I'd think he'd actually be fairly popular as a backup option at a high level, or starter at a lower level. Wasn't he the kid Pope was lauding last summer as one of the best shooters UK had ever had? I didn't watch a ton of UK last year, but I thought he showed quite a lot more promise than Cupps ever has.

He’s not bad. I’d say he’s a couple of steps above Cupps. Not sure he could be a starter at any SEC or BIG school. He’s bad defensively.

All about the fit and situation. He's A LOT more advanced offensively than Cupps is, especially shooting wise. But Cupps is a better ball handler and more willing passer, faster, taller/longer, and a markedly better defender.

Man, you saw a lot out of Cupps for a kid who barely even played last year. I had to check after your description to see what I missed. He played 4 games last year for a total of 25 minutes. Perry played in 31 games and averaged 10 mpg; on a team that was ranked most of the year. Maybe Cupps is all those things, but there really just wasn't enough PT to even form an opinion. Right now, I would think Perry would be in far greater demand that Gabe and at least showed he can play at this level. Cupps is still a big ?

Cupps didn't play much last year due to injury. He played 33 games the year before and averaged over 21 minutes per game.

Right, but was only playing because the roster was mismanaged and XJ was injured. Didn't do much and then didn't play, and both years on teams that didn't make the tourney. I'd not give him an edge over Perry in any area at this point. Not like Perry was a world beater but he played for a team that was solid all year and made the tourney. I watched one of the UT games and Perry looked really solid and made some plays that sparked their team. But, it was better than anything I saw Cupps do at IU in 2 years.
