UCLA USC coming to the Big Ten *

So, in basketball, 3 super conferences. Conferences tournament champs get automatic Final Four berths.

The other schools play a separate NCAA 64 team tournament with the winner getting the fourth spot in the Final Four. Winner is crowned NCAA Champ.

Is that what you have in mind?
Honestly I haven't thought of basketball. I have a bunch of KU friends and they say that there has been talk about them throwing in the towel on football, going independent, and taking hoops to the big east.

Also don't reply to one of my posts without first either liking or loving the post you are replying to

I heard today there was confirmation that the non-revenue IU sports will have to travel to UCLA and USC only about once every 3 years or so (and vice versa).

Not a big change really, since basketball hasn't had home-and-home series with each team playing all the other teams for several years.

However, the idea that UCLA/USC and MD/Rutgers will have to fly 5-6 hours cross country (plus time for bus to hotel, passing security, weather, traffic etc.) to play each other could create some issues about fairness and competition.

Real Divisions. No inter-divisional regular season games. Division champions meet in conference championship game. No BTT. More regular season games. In basketball, play home-and-away within your Division. In football, play everybody in your Division every year.

And I get the “money“ from the BTT. But in-season games between the powers in what we can call the Eastern Division, which in the immediate future would likely be IU, Purdue, Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State will be sell-outs and the network (Fox?) is already going to be paying huge bucks for the conference games. You’re likely to get 74 people in the stands in Kansas City - central location now - for an early round BTT game between Maryland and Washington, assuming the conference isn’t stopping at USC and UCLA.

Is this potentially just a way to get rid of the NCAA? If we have two conferences does NCAA actually do anything?
Yeah good question. I mean at some point with NIL and the rest will they be anything other than event hosts. I hate the ncaa

It's all about the Benjamins. And the B1G's got 'em.
And it might mean IU’s future is in jeopardy as a member. Does it make sense for the B1G to retain the worst power 5 football school? This deal is about football, not UCLA’s 11 and IU’s 5 basketball NCAA titles.

We've seen schools jump to other conferences but had there been a school kicked out in recent times? I doubt that happens

I don’t think that’s in the cards.

Not a chance.

For as bad as we are, we still turn a profit for football. We still draw. We are a big time school, no matter how you look at it.

We're not getting kicked out if the conference.

Not disputing that at all.

Estimate of 100 million or more a year just for the rumored new TV deal will buy a lot of new buildings.
Had IU known this was coming 15 years ago they wouldn’t have kept AH. Other than the advantage of a deafening crowd, AH still sucks to watch a game in.

Indiana needs to concentrate on football first and foremost. The indoor facility needs updated like no other. Updating that would really help recruiting as well.

If we can get football rolling, that's where the money is. Basketball is small coin compared to what football brings in.

They need a full 120 yard one.

You probably want to tear down Wrigley Field and Fenway Park, don't you?

With the new coin it might happen.
Not a chance. Nor should there be.

Have been to Bainbridge, or whatever they're calling where the Pacers play now? Anything above the club level sucks, and most of the seats are above club level.

There are so many more requirements to build a place like that now than there were in 1971. The atmosphere in the new places sucks.

Except for baseball. The old round stadiums were awful

They need better/more student athlete type dorms.
I hope not. Athletes already get treated like royalty.

But they probably will build an 'athletic dorm' and tear out good parking along 17th street.

Speaking of , Red Sox at Wrigley this weekend. Beth Mowins is one of the Cubs announcers now. I hadnt watched Cubs on new network so was watching for Red Sox. Horrible announcing group. Where have all the Harry Carays gone? She is horrible at any sport but especially at baseball.

I have MLB network and only watch the NESN broadcasts. Bad loss for the Sox yesterday. Send Vazquez home when we had a big inning going and he was out by 2 steps.

Wish I still lived in Indiana - I'd be at Wrigley tonight.

My power went out when Sox were up 4-0 came back on top of 8th. I like Cubs as well, but they have been so bad. Sox are my #1 just wasnt paying for league pass. Much better announcers when I get a NESN broadcast on MLB

Wow! I think it's pretty good seating. Now the top section is not good but whose is (I've been to about 5 NBA arenas)? How would you compare Gainbridge to Assembly Hall?
