Again, regardless of who the coach is, teams are often turning over a lot of their roster every year. Either due to draft, graduation or transfer portal. It's not even always the coach's fault. Look at Wisconsin.....they lost AJ Storrs, Chucky Hepburn, Connor Essegian, Isaac Lindsey, and Luke Haertle. Greg Gard is a great coach, those guys would've been 3 of the top 6 returning scorers from the year prior.
I am just saying, it's not the same kind of knock-on Indiana as a program, or even necessarily the coach, as it was back in the day. I say this because we don't need to slam the door on every kid going into the portal unless they did something rude or offensive. It's the modern-day environment and naturally, we are ok with any player leaving because they don't fit the mold of what the coach is building. Whatever our roster construction may be in the end, it's both the player and the coaches' choices and often times it's a win-win for both.

That sucks kid has talent. So right now we have Sisley, DeVries, Goode? Enright? Conwell? Good shooting team probably the best since the Crean era.

But right now means nothing. It's not surprising, having retired our coach. Plenty of options will present after the season ends.
Nope, I want what Dusty, Pope and Kelsey did last year. So he needs to sh7t me an Amari Williams, Chuck Hepburn, Danny Wolf, Otega Oweh to go along with Tucker D.

No. We could of hired may last year and beard this year. We didn't but there is no excuse to not win right away when you have options like that. Expectations should be ncaa tourney minimum.

As of now we have a new coach… assistants and players to be determined later. Stay tuned folks. The sky has not fallen yet. Already too much whining.

This is the 4th day the portal has been open, relax. In 3-4 months all 13 spots will be filled. Who knows some of those players yet to announce publicly they are going or in the portal are playing in the Sweet 16. All of these portal discussions are behind the scenes with coaches and agents, then player invites. This coach will do very well building a squad .. no worries.
Yea. Most schools have very few if any portal commits at this stage. In fact, having one in Tucker D. puts us ahead of most programs.
Even that may not be official yet, isn't he still waiting for that year from the NCAA? It's a given but no announcement that I have seen. It will be interesting to see who files for the portal after this weekend is over.

Agree 💯. He has done this before. He had to build a team from search at both Drake and WVU. Last year there was just one retuning player from a very bad team. With the rebuild they beat Gonzaga, ISU, Arizona and Kansas at Phog. All were ranked in the top 5 at the time they played. Not to shabby.

Coaches are not jumping at guys who are currently in the portal. They are doing their homework, investigating, planning, etc. There will be a lot more guys who go into the portal the first of next week and then after the Final Four.

Yetthe ball has to get rolling to get assistants in place and start recruiting Bigs and PGs and a PF or 2 to IU from portal or decommits from WV or elsewhere and sooner than later. 8-10 guys is a lot to replace.
It sure seems like DeVries first order of business was to sterilize the program... And to do it the right way, by meeting with the current players, and having discussions with them. He needed to do that, in all likelihood, before moving on and bringing new players and staff in.
For a guy like DeVries, or at least what he sounds like, setting the foundation for what he wants IU basketball to be is the absolute first step. Sterilizing staff and rosters, redoing offices, probably changing locker room and Cook Hall posters and paint and stuff, ordering specific equipment... That's what he's working on right now. Obviously I assume he's also mutli tasking, and recruiting like crazy.
But as has been mentioned, and supported with various X posts, comparative signing and hiring dates, etc... Its still VERY early for player and assistant coach signings.
Doesn't make it any less anxiety producing...as much as anyone should have anxiety over something like a sports team they root for a couple times a week, for a few months a year.
Apples vs Oranges. I think you can see that CDD's college resume is much better than Woody's. I expect much different results than that crap I have watched the last 8 years with CDD at the helm. I guess we can argue the detailed points line by line but don't have time for that today.

Was watching bball last night and realized how close we were to having McNeeley, Boogie Fland and Queen on this year's squad. Throw in some of this year's players and that's probably top 10 and a 2-3 seed team. And possibly B1G champion. Although, with the coaching awaiting them in Btown... perhaps not.
Haha It wasn't the talent that was the problem. It was the coach. We could've added Michael Jordan and we still were what we were.
I think Woodson's NBA cache did help draw portal players, plus TJD's success as a player. Wasn't able to build a team out of it, but he always seemed to have us in the conversation, even for some of those highly recruited freshman we didn't get.
Fingers crossed that DeVries will be able to recruit. He has a rep of being able to pretty well. Hopefully he can convince the high end talent that he identifies as such. Plus play a little money ball to complete the team. Gotta get several high end guys every year though.

I wish the dollar amounts weren't made public. It's so high now that there's is always going to be some level of passive resentment from someone moving forward.
