Trump Tariffs

Amazing that the posters above you quoted rather see America lose than Trump win, even if it means America wins too…

interesting strategy you’re promoting instead. Keep the ultra-successful “do nothing” tactics….
I see they have stopped packages from China. That's a decent idea.

This is probably why:

Could be a simple manpower issue... The number of packages that have to go through Customs just increased astronomically...

But it should also cut down on precursors shipped directly.

I personally don't want to be paying for another counties citizens when we can't get our own shit under control first.
You already are. 🤦🏻 you have subsidized every other country since before you were born. How does it feel to realize China used us to become what they are by unfair tactics.

Okay.

I don't want to do it for another country, especially one that from the looks of it, doesn't want us to overtake them.

Is that an okay answer for you?

I’m for it. The undeveloped recourses they have is well worth it. Especially being this close. If people want to get away from China this is one way to do it. If the US doesn’t then someone will.

Hey, we disagree. That's okay. It's allowed.

Your wife been doing well lately?

Pretty well. Thanks for asking. I’m also not for subsidizing another country unless it’s in both peoples best interest. The benefit in this case far outweighs the negatives. De globalization is what both administrations want/wanted. So getting resources as close as possible is the goal.

I haven’t tuned into Fox News in the last few days as a matter of fact, and so the most hilarious part about what she said was realizing that some of the things conservatives here have been posting came straight out of those talking points, like be calm and so forth. Including some here who … cough cough … assert they don’t listen to Fox. 🤣🤣🤣

Its just shocking how much of the rhetoric or fake news gets spewed out verbatim. Like I said, its almost like the ol' Soviet Union who only get their news from Pravda.

The other contradiction I see is -- I dont believe anything -- ANYTHING the mainstream media like the New York Times on XXX or so-and-so. But somehow when it comes to foreign reports, it's somehow all true?

The other side 'must have 'cheated' to win -- similar to any accusation lumped on the other side in the basket forum -- like we are holier than the Pope. And whilst ignoring our past indiscretions. It's got to do with who we think of ourseleves and a projection of that.

Like someone here telling me how horrible the human rights abuse is in Singapore --- even though the chances are that he never made it past the Continental Divide, never mind across the Pacific.

Bitch, I lived there for several decades.

Its the same old, worn-out stereotypes that are always being applied. Its shocking.

Yet look at the history. Btw. How far does the statue of limitations last for crimes against humanity in amy discussion?

And as I said before, who are we to judge others on human rights in view of the past? The word hypocrisy is increasingly being used to describe the US in this neck of the world. But yet for the vast majority of Americans, they are still the 'good guys'. (Its due to selective memory or chronic cognitive dissonance.) Sure, they have done good things, but so have other countries. Its not a black & white world that we live in.

But what Trump has revealed very recently is that its actually self-interest.

Another word is 'freedom' ? Different societies have different value systems that need to be respected. Like the example I used about Singapore and the ability to walk down the streets at 4am and not feel threatened. Women jogging alone in parks at 10pm.
Or not fearing for their kids' safety when going to school etc. That's a psychological freedom and not something that needs to be codified or used cynically in songs or political speeches.

Its different from what's been indoctrinated in the States.

But is it wrong?

There are two contacts in any conflict or dispute:

1. Both sides always think they are right. Nobody goes into a war, trade or other wise thinking they are the bad guys.
2. In any war, the first victim is always the 'truth'.

That's why I am always the devil's advocate.

So, you're not serious about bringing down our debt. Checks out.

I hope we get Greenland. I hope we get Canada too. Elections would work out pretty well for the right.
What would the return on our investment be? Isn’t that an important piece of understanding how it would affect the debt?

A devil’s advocate means someone just takes the opposite view in different arguments. You’re not a devil’s advocate, you’re just a shill for the CCP.

Yep. Because everyone tried to get their stuff into port before the tariffs kicked in. Orders are being canceled right and left.
I will bet you $5000 that customs duties for FY2025 are at least 15% higher than FY2024.

Would you like to accept?

There are a plethora of problems with reliance on tariffs as a stream of gov revenue, but I’m not sure I’ve heard the contention that higher tariffs don’t increase customs duties, at least in the short term.

We on?

No.
At no point did I suggest that tariff collections would be lower for the year or that higher tariffs can’t increase tariff revenue.

So now have at it. Call me a pussy, a wimp, a dimwit, you pick. Go ahead, have at it.

If you would like to learn something, here’s an explanation as to why only a fool would bet on tariff collections for the year and why your 16% claim is bunk. Hell there are still goods in transport that are not subject to the tariff increases.

My 16% claim is bunk? So the treasury data is being manipulated?

As I explained to you, the increase in collected tariffs is because people expedited orders to beat the tariff increases. The higher tariffs have not been in place long enough to have had an effect other than time shifting orders.

Talked to a client yesterday about a project I helped them with. The item retails for a couple thousand dollars and is manufactured in China. With the current tariffs, the client’s landed cost would be more than 120% of the RETAIL price of the product in stores. So they canceled all orders. There is literally no one in the U.S. that can make the product. If the tariffs on China continue they’ll either kill the project or try to convince a manufacturer in another Asian country (with a lower tariff) to make it.

If a U.S. manufacturer were to agree to try to make the product the retail price would have to be at least 30-40% higher for it to be profitable to the client. These are real world problems - not the fantasy of a keyboard warrior such as yourself.

The blanket tariffs went in place in April but Trump had already been placing miscellaneous tariffs prior to then namely on Canada, Mexico and China.

That is chiefly responsible for the surge customs collections. Not the nonsense you’ve been posting.

You’re out of your depth Nood. You’re a know nothing.
