The good news is cars last longer, assuming you take care of them. But eventually, maintenance gets expensive.
It's going to be interesting. I don't know how much of our stuff originates it China, but I'm sure it's a substantial amount. And as far as our little outfit (six stores in southeast Indiana) is concerned, business is flat. In 2021, when I started with them, that year was gangbusters. It was also in the midst of a flood of extra Covid money, which presumably some people used to fix up their cars. Since then, our growth has slowed, and this year it will be totally flat -- essentially dead even year-over-year.
Meanwhile, a huge amount of parts that were usually replaced as part of routine maintenance twenty years ago are no longer even used (ignition parts like caps and rotors and wires) or last for forever (like 100K mile spark plugs). Soon enough with EVs, the only things left to service will be tires and suspension. Hell, they don't even require routine brake replacements.
But I won't give a shit. By that time I'll be too old and broken down to haul shit around and will be living on the good graces of @JamieDimonsBalls and @BadWakeboarder and @mcmurtry66 and @twenty02. I sure hope their chosen professions don't crater along with mine.

Jegs Hi Performance had a banner year in 21 too. Everyone was bolting on shit to make whatever they were driving, or hoping to drive, go faster. Then it went south.
2021 was a good year. I reminded the owners that ever since I started the company had been running at a record pace.
