Travel is brutal.

Private flight from Dayton to Portland tonight. Shoot around, eat, try to sleep and then wait all day to play. If we get past this weekend, we will most defiantly earn it.
Damn. I figured they’d get some sleep at the hotel and then take a flight out this am. The biggest challenge they are going to have will be the time change. That’s an ass whipping in and of itself.

Did we ever get confirmation on what they decided to do? To me, chartering the team out last night on our dime was the prudent move and let the NCAA-funded posse flight catch up today.

Race looked exhausted tonight. He's not been very good for a while. Thankfully Jordan has plenty of energy.

If we go to the elite 8 JG will get drafted. Wanna bet? Kidding, odds of this happening are small obviously, but you almost always see a player play themselves into the draft because of the tourney. What if IU was that team this year? Love our freaking draw as you will see in my bracket, but did you expect anything else honestly? I promise you every scout in America knows who Jordan Geronimo is now.

I just got a text that indicates they were scheduled to fly at 1 AM as most of us suspected but were delayed till like 4. Still in the air.

This is ****ed up. Shame on the committee for this malpractice.

edit: I trust this person's info usually but cannot independently verify.

It really does make you wonder why they couldn't just have the play in game in Portland.

So, they have to go to shoot around in 8 hours, get a nights rest, then play a basketball game the next day? Ok

I realize that taking care of your body, rest, etc is a real thing. I also think the modern NBA cry babies with their “load management” has made whining about this stuff fashionable. Larry Bird scored 60 after sitting around commercial connecting flight delays eating hot dogs.

20 year olds have to play a game in 36 hours… the horror. Doug Gotlieb said something that’s so true. Indiana has an easier scout than St Mary’s because the knew who they are going to play.

Guarantee the team gives 0 rips about the travel situation.

Well, the travel after the game is bad, however it gave us an enormous boost last night (being in Dayton in front of IU fans). Would it have been better to play last night in Portland, and lose?

I travel roughly 120-150 days a year for my job.

Plane travel, for whatever reason, is exhausting. Traveling westward usually isn't as bad as traveling eastward, though, so that's good.

But while I'm not normally an excuses guy...IU's travel issues/situation last night does give St Mary's a decided advantage. And it could have easily been avoided. I can't fathom that it was necessary for a play in team to head all the way out to Portland.

Its not the end of the world. Like I said, usually traveling out west doesn't hit you too badly. But each of the kids are different people. And all of their routines, sleep, nutrition, etc... have been heavily altered because of this.

At a minimum...have all the play in games teams feed into Friday "2nd round" games. It could be done, I don't understand the justification for how it was setup this year.

I think Notre Dame and Rutgers are in the same boat. Pretty ridiculous but what can you do.

Although, St Mary's plays a really slow pace with a really small rotation so they might not be able to fully exploit any fatigue.

Plus, IU now has a tournament game under its belt and has maybe worked out some jitters. Important as St. Mary's doesn't have much tournament experience either. The lost in the first round of the NIT last year, and lost in the first round of the NCAA tournament 3 years ago and only 2 players from that team are still at St. Mary's

So it seems like the plane the NCAA chartered was too small, so they had to wait to switch planes

Thx.

As I said...malpractice on the part of the committee.
Check out this article from IndyStar:

The plane to take IU basketball to Portland wasn't big enough. So Hoosiers had to wait.

This is total BS. Someone in the NCAA should be held accountable for this entire debacle.

His scoring has certainly seemed down and IIRC he has had some foul trouble. Maybe the matchups or simply higher competition, but guys do get in ruts and maybe he is in one. Here’s to hoping he breaks out. If we have any intent of making a run, we need the best Race can provide.

I love this video. 18 to 22 year old athletes have seemingly endless amounts of energy.

I was nothing but a sorry pick-up game player at that age, but I remember summer days playing for hours every day. These kids will be fine.
I remember being that age at IU and staying out drinking before passing out at like 4 am before waking up at 10 and going out for a run just like a normal morning. I'm in my mid 30s and I'd be dead if I did that now.

Race isn't that good period. He can't cover perimeter players. He must lead the country in giving up wide open 3's. Media love him. Was voted All BIG HR by media, not by coaches.

Or maybe it has something to do with the fact that he's 6'8, bulky, and has been a post defender his entire career. Kofi Cockburn, and a lot of other guys would struggle guarding out there as well.

Race has been invaluable to us this year and we aren't sniffing the dance without his contributions. He struggled last night - everyone does on occasion. That's why you need a decent bench.

Dumb take.

I just turned 30. You're absolutely right about that.

Hell, I was at Kilroy's in Broad Ripple last night for the game, had three beers, got home at midnight and was into work at 8:30 this morning. I am most definitely dragging ass.

Sh!t I felt great until about 37-38. I’m 47 and had 3 pretty strong IPAs. Was up and at work around 5. I can do it once a week maybe but that’s it. 🤣

He is playing out of position Yes. But he is a tweener because he wouldn't be a good center. He is a role player. He has sat in 2 of last three games and JG has been better. Im sick of hearing all this glue nonsense and unsung hero. He plays next to TJD. He gets a lot of open looks.

TJD gets assists for it too.
