Other forums are saying IU has a better than great shot at Mendoza.
I suppose anything is possible, but we probably aren’t beating ND without Rourke anyway, we have to pursue the players that are best for our team moving forward. It’s a completely new world for these coaching staffs, there will almost certainly be unexpected departures for most teams. Here is my concern, say we sign a QB between now and next Friday.
Would T Jackson go in portal before next weeks game?
It could happen,we would be left with 2 freshman to back up Rourke if he would get banged up (heaven forbid)
I totally get that, just something to think about and I’m sure CCC is aware of that.I suppose anything is possible, but we probably aren’t beating ND without Rourke anyway, we have to pursue the players that are best for our team moving forward. Mendoza may very well be off to the NFL with a good showing in Bloomington after a single year. Rourke went from a virtual unknown with injury history to a likely draft pick.Mendoza is only a RS Sophomore. Seems like a great addition, but you know that would unsettle Tayven. If the staff believes he's a clear upgrade then I'm all for it. Balancing team harmony is their job, and they're paid handsomely for that.
You can announce your intention to go into the portal without leaving your team. Hopefully, Cig wouldn’t punish them for seeking out new opportunities, but in a case like Devin Brown at osu he could still shop for a new home without leaving the team. It would be beneficial for both sides to have that flexibility. I hope Tayven stays though and takes a big step forward in the spring. It may also depend on who the new qb coach will be. You would have to think if we get a qb commit in the next week they will know who they are hiring. Here is my concern, say we sign a QB between now and next Friday.

Kids have to be able to start classes at their new school in January. They REALLY need to move the transfer window around or something. This timing is stupid.
We are still pretending these kids go to school? Loljk.Kids have to be able to start classes at their new school in January.
I'm sure he's looking around for an experienced portal qb. But I don't expect, and I'm sure he won't, guarantee him the job. What's the opportunity cost of a portal QB?
Risking losing a 4 star QB that has shown over a couple seasons he can start and win Big Ten games.
Plus.
NIL that can be used to bring in 1,2, or maybe 3 starter level players, or a potential all conference level player. (The moneyball argument)
I know some on here want to believe everything CCC says publicly as if it's the Bible, but I would say there is at least a chance it was a motivational tactic to get Jackson primed to fight for the Indiana starter role.
Plus there is nothing lost in playing a PR fishing game with possible QB portal entrants to see if you can get your foot in the door and possibly land an elite QB talent, depending on how the market unfolds, because you know your plan B is solid.
He's absolutely going to bring in an experienced QB from the portal, at the very least to push Jackson in camp. He's not going to throw away a season due to an injury at the QB position. I know that much. What's the opportunity cost of a portal QB?

I mean...it's a freaking job, so I kinda get it.
Interestingly enough, I heard Cardale on a radio interview last week and was surprised at how articulate he sounded after he'd made a comment like that.
Well, one of those schools like to throw the ball around the yard a lot.
Maybe…but Cig is looking for something in TJ that he hasn’t shown(it seems). If Mendoza ends up here he’s probably almost assuredly the starter. He’s close to if not the best QB in the portal. If I had to bet he’s coming… I would.I don't know Tayven at all, but would think he'd almost have to portal. He's good enough to play somewhere if it's not here.
If they spend to bring in a guy like that, they can say all they want about him not being the starter, but he's the starter... until beaten out. Which is harder to do than being the assumed starter and keeping it.
But, if there's other factors for Tayven, or he's plenty confident he wins the job, maybe he stays. But would think at best it could be whether he gets enough cash.

Ole Miss came into the Western suburbs of Chicago and was handing out $ to kids with good academic standing. Kids were getting half or full tuition off about 4-5 years ago.

Tracy and Mendoza would be the start of a great offensive haul. Got to make sure the NIL $ is there.
Yay, he did learn. Hope he got a degree.

Because 90% of them are average schools at best. Can verify. Lots of the SEC schools are.
