Too bad we don't play Illinois this year... Tim Beckman has been fired

Oh definitely. They're not gonna have a permanent head coach there until December at the earliest, and if the season really goes bad for them nobody is gonna want to touch that program with a 10 foot pole, not until they see who is the new head coach. Course, we gotta make sure we do well enough that we're not also looking for a head coach come December...

Also, it appears that the reason why he was fired was:

During a preliminary briefing from the external reviewers, Thomas said he learned of efforts to deter injury reporting and influence medical decisions that pressured players to avoid or postpone medical treatment and continue playing despite injuries. He also said in some instances student-athletes were treated inappropriately with respect to whether they could remain on scholarship during the spring semester of their senior year if they weren’t on the team.

Bill Cubit, the interim head coach and offensive coordinator before the firing, is a former Division One head coach, and probably a much better leader than Beckman. The Illini won't suffer from Beckman's firing.

The consensus among Illini faithful is that there won't be much dropoff from Beckman to Cubit.
Cubit might even better their chances at a bowl.

Cubit coached at Western Michigan. Even was the head coach there when IU played up there in the 2007 season.

Prediction: the Illini come out more rejuvenated and post an 8 win season.

Regardless of the coaching saga there, it's absurd that IU and the Illini won't be playing each other, 2 out of every 6 yrs. Just ridiculous. Way to go, Big Ten. Can't wait to play "long time rivals" Maryland and Rutgers every year.

OK, you're trolling now. We're going 3-9, and Illinois is going to win 8? Really? Cubit is a fine coach, but is hardly some genius. He got fired at WMU. Illinois is not very good.

I don't know...I think the Illini are a lot closer to 8 wins than we are. Part of that is a byproduct of the divisions.

You might want to at least look at their schedule.
