Add those to the list of openings from last year, whatever they were. That's a list of all of the other job openings, besides IU and Texas, that hired new coaches in this cycle. That's a lot of 'holier than thou' schools to pass on someone who doesn't have any character flaws (allegedly). Not one of them sniffed Chris Beard. Hmmm. I wonder why?

I too grow tired of the CB fan club, and agree 100% with this point. There are no guarantees that he’d worked out just as there is with DD.

Beard doesn’t answer the phone for anyone on that list except nova.

So you’re saying Beard would rather stay at Ole Miss than take the job at Maryland, Miami, Iowa, Utah, and (from last year) L’ville, UK, and UofM? I think it is highly unlikely that he passes on all those jobs to stay at Mississippi.

Crean and Archie already did, and I'd wager both will coach somewhere again.
I said receive another HC job, like from now on, For sure never coach in the power 4 again. Thanks for telling me they coached after us, didn't realize..... lol

Yes Beard would for sure rather stay in the SEC then go to any of those schools. Maryland has financial issues, Ole Miss does not.

Last year is not this year, those three schools are meaningless in this conversation.

The openings from last year are very relevant to the OP’s point, which is that multiple schools have passed on Beard in the two most recent hiring cycles.

They aren't relevant in me saying Beard didn't take the call from the schools that were on the list posted for this year.

People will call Beard next year too, the list will keep growing. As time moves schools will be willing to take Beard. Just like Ricky P to St Johns, time heals all if you can win.

I’m thinking that there is more in Beard’s past that is not publicly known that is causing schools to pass on him now, the kind of thing(s) that can’t be ignored. Too many good jobs have opened up in the past two years to make me think he is simply passing on all of them.

A&M did pursue him. He turned them down to stay at Ole Miss. Do you think any of the rest of those schools are better than where he's at right now? Besides, the argument was never that schools are going to stay away from him. You know that.

Besides Michigan, which big jobs have opened that you're thinking of? (legitimate question). Regardless, I don't think losing out to Dusty May is indicative of not being wanted generally speaking. There's a lot of high profile coaches out there.

I thought your implication was that they were so bad at IU, they'd never coach again. I just heard an interview with Crean and he said he was certain he'd coach again. I'd think a P4 job is only 1 good 2-3 year run at a mid-major away. Schools have short memories for most things.

I think Cav's comments are spot on in this thread: most of those schools listed are not upgrades to Ole Miss so he'd not have any interest. I tend to agree, or just that not enough time had passed. I think he'd have been interested in IU, UK, Lville and obviously A&M, the others are non-starters. Also agree with Cav that give him another year or 2 and some elite program will come calling. Be ironic if he turned us down for someone like UK in 4-5 years.

Understood. My point isn’t that he would pass on any of them, rather that he would not pass on all of them.

You have no idea if they sniffed him or not.
Maybe he doesn't want to coach at a school like minnesota or iowa. None of those jobs are really all that attractive or better than his current gig.

Yes none of those are that great of jobs. Besides we are told over and over we cannot get a proven p5 coach because they don't leave their current gigs. What happened to that narrative now? As far as kentucky or Louisville do you know for a fact they actually looked at him at all? People claimed they passed but maybe he was neverveven looked at.

Yeah, other than maybe location (school for kids, klan, etc), none of those is really an upgrade. Maybe Maryland…..

Isn't that the same as being passed over, if they never even considered him?

Yeah Archie might take a D3 or a high school HC job somewhere. His record since leaving Dayton is laughably bad. Crean will probably never work as a head coach again, he likely doesn't need money, and he has a cush analyst gig where he can watch games and point out deflections and thow in a bit of Christian evangelism.

Stupidity like your agenda would be my answer and outside of Nova why would he go to any of those schools. You don't know if any of them contacted him or not.

That would be my point. The only thing we the public, observing from a distance, know is that none of those schools hired him when they had an opening. So either 1) the schools showed interest and he didn’t reciprocate; 2) the schools showed initial interest and eventually backed off or; 3) he showed interest and the schools didn’t reciprocate.

The point remains. IU isn’t the only big time program that did not hire him during its most recent opening. My guess is that upon consideration each school found more damaging incidents. But that is just a guess on my part.

IU will not touch anyone with so much as a speeding ticket. So I mean there may not be anything else but IU will not consider you if you have even a minor sekelton. IU would never ever consider a guy like Todd Golden either even though he was cleared of the allegations. It does not matter to IU imo if the allegation is made that is all that matters to them.

I find it all very odd though given there are now basically zero rules and the NCCA has no real power anymore. Can you imagine the NCAA now trying to put a school on probation? Forget it. One thing i will say is I do think Dusty May is a good coach but not sure I could have listened to his voice day in and out. Man that voice is cringe.
