Why because he has discipline, culture and a team that plays hard? Why are so many people high on TJ? Why has he done that makes him many people’s top choice? I’ve watched and his personality, imo, wouldn’t be the best fit here?
You snoozeth you loseth.I was in Indiana for a week visiting about a month ago and forgot to get a breaded tenderloin. Pray for me. 😊
That's funny, I always prefer the "classic" smaller town college vs an urban one. Do you prefer to vacation in cities vs nature/more remote spots?
Nah… UCLA is stuck between Beverly Hills and the tourist trap of Westwood shopping. There’s nothing ‘college town’ about it. I used to ride my bike through the campus thinking, this is it?
It certainly doesn’t have the charm of btown. There’s a secret spot in the world and it’s between the Union and Ballentine Hall in September and October when the weather starts to change and classes are in full force. You know what I’m talking about if you’ve experienced this.
Haven’t been to Bloomington.Awesome. What were your impressions of IU’s campus?
Lol. The chemistry building? Nobody who spent time in there has fond memories.Nah… UCLA is stuck between Beverly Hills and the tourist trap of Westwood shopping. There’s nothing ‘college town’ about it. I used to ride my bike through the campus thinking, this is it?

After considering all the positives and negatives of each candidate, I think this guy would be the best option. No background noise, young, great coach, teaches D, low buyout, excellent record. With our NIL and recruiting base this man would be very successful here.
So?He isn’t leaving. His wife is an ISU alum.
Yeah, logic tells me you only do that to have the option to leave for a better job. If you plan to stay at Iowa State, why insist on lowering the buyout by $14m less than a year after the previous extension? So he just signed a new contract that dropped his buyout from $18m to $4m??
That's a very wild contact extension. Can't say I've ever seen that.

Iowa State basketball: T.J. Otzelberger's new contract includes salary raise, lower buyout
The details behind Iowa State men's basketball coach T.J. Otzelberger's recent contract extension have been released.www.desmoinesregister.com
I have zero idea. Would be very happy thoApparently the Tilly discord is saying Otz to IU is done. Ink being dry. Can anyone confirm? @Jim Coyle @Cavanagh
Me too. Someone needs to give him some larger shirts though.I have zero idea. Would be very happy tho
It’s a St. Johns insider saying this. I’d take it with a grain of salt for now.Apparently the Tilly discord is saying Otz to IU is done. Ink being dry. Can anyone confirm? @Jim Coyle @Cavanagh
Yeah seems weird he would agree to anything with a potential FF run still ahead. I would be happy if he was the hire though. It’s a St. Johns insider saying this. I’d take it with a grain of salt for now.
Otz makes sense for a bunch of different reasons. But its hard to believe anyone would know its him, at this point. If his team this year gets healthy, he's a legitimate Final Four contender. I can't fathom he'd be to the point where "its done".Apparently the Tilly discord is saying Otz to IU is done. Ink being dry. Can anyone confirm? @Jim Coyle @Cavanagh
It’s ok to bring it to the board.Until I hear something from a legit journalist, I won’t believe anything.
Rather have McCollum or Golden but he'd be OK. Not great but OK.I have zero idea. Would be very happy tho
Yep but Golden will not be considered period.Rather have McCollum or Golden but he'd be OK. Not great but OK.
I think what I would be most excited about is his ability to use the portal to build a team that fits how he wants to play. Iowa State has a collection of "dudes", some that are pro level players, but few/none of them were at the top of anyone's lists. Assuming he carried that mindset to IU, and used our resources to get maybe a few "better" guys that fit his style...he could be a monster here.Rather have McCollum or Golden but he'd be OK. Not great but OK.
I would take him over McCollum in heartbeat. I want no part of any mid major hire and especially ones who have only coached D1 a year or two.I think what I would be most excited about is his ability to use the portal to build a team that fits how he wants to play. But I gotta think his "floor" would be better than anything we've seen consistently since mid 90's.
No flipping way- it’s flat and dull.I have never been to Ames so I don’t know if it is better than Bloomington.
I'd love a McCollum hire. Just as much as a TJ Otz hire. But I'd have to admit, an Otz hire would feel more "solid".I would take him over McCollum in heartbeat. I want no part of any mid major hire and especially ones who have only coached D1 a year or two.
They got better after he left. The 2 years at UNLV are really the only concern. Did he take over a really bad situation?
So did we for a couple years after Knight was fired. Did he recruit a bunch of solid guys and leave a good situation when he left? They got better after he left.
Sampson was better.I think what I would be most excited about is his ability to use the portal to build a team that fits how he wants to play. McCollum yes.. Golden not so much.Rather have McCollum or Golden but he'd be OK. Not great but OK.
For about 12 months, sure...I said consistently.Sampson was better.
First season at new school before NIL and then the post covid season. Nothing burger for me.The 2 years at UNLV are really the only concern. Did he take over a really bad situation?
I bet Dusty is kicking himself (if his wife isn’t) over not waiting another year for the IU job. Michigan can’t feel as right to them.Who cares if his wife went to Iowa State? Dusty May's wife went to IU - so did Dusty - and that didn't matter. If he wants to win and become extremely rich while doing it, he will come to IU. If he wants job security, he will stay where he is.
From the articles I've read on the Mays... nothing jumps out to me that they're "loving" Ann Arbor. But one thing that did jump out was his wife was very anxious to get out of the Bloomington area years ago, and I haven't seen it mentioned, by either of them, that their clamoring to come back "home".I bet Dusty is kicking himself (if his wife isn’t) over not waiting another year for the IU job. Michigan can’t feel as right to them.
