TJ Otzelberger

Who cares if his wife went to Iowa State? Dusty May's wife went to IU - so did Dusty - and that didn't matter. If he wants to win and become extremely rich while doing it, he will come to IU. If he wants job security, he will stay where he is.

Why are so many people high on TJ? Why has he done that makes him many people’s top choice? I’ve watched and his personality, imo, wouldn’t be the best fit here?
Why because he has discipline, culture and a team that plays hard?

That's funny, I always prefer the "classic" smaller town college vs an urban one. Do you prefer to vacation in cities vs nature/more remote spots?

Nah… UCLA is stuck between Beverly Hills and the tourist trap of Westwood shopping. There’s nothing ‘college town’ about it. I used to ride my bike through the campus thinking, this is it?

It certainly doesn’t have the charm of btown. There’s a secret spot in the world and it’s between the Union and Ballentine Hall in September and October when the weather starts to change and classes are in full force. You know what I’m talking about if you’ve experienced this.

I distinguish college campus from college town. UCLA is the nicest college campus I’ve visited, despite the fact it is in a big city. Another example of this on a smaller scale is ND/South Bend. SB is not a college town but ND is definitely a classic college campus. I took grad classes at UW Madison in the summer, so my experience with Madison is admittedly not typical. The town itself was less busy than it is during the school year, I’m sure. As far as classic college towns are concerned, Ann Arbor, Princeton, and Charlottesville are among my favorites.

Another distinction I’m familiar with here in DC is G’town vs. GWU. If you’re on the G’town campus you wouldn’t know that you’re in a big city. Conversely, the GW campus mainly consists of a group of buildings in the middle of the city. If not for the signs on the buildings, you wouldn’t know that you’re on a “campus.”

Lol. The chemistry building? Nobody who spent time in there has fond memories.

After considering all the positives and negatives of each candidate, I think this guy would be the best option. No background noise, young, great coach, teaches D, low buyout, excellent record. With our NIL and recruiting base this man would be very successful here.

TJO absolutely destroying Arizona right now. Iowa State’s defense is stifling.

IU should go hard after this guy. IMO, he’s better than Beard, May, and McCollum. He’s a young, not slimy Sampson.

So he just signed a new contract that dropped his buyout from $18m to $4m??

That's a very wild contact extension. Can't say I've ever seen that.

Yeah, logic tells me you only do that to have the option to leave for a better job. If you plan to stay at Iowa State, why insist on lowering the buyout by $14m less than a year after the previous extension?

The conspiratorial side of me thinks he may be eying the IU job in concert with Dolson behind the scenes. I am actually of the opinion that Dolson has been manipulating things to get this guy with the right timing. I don’t think he lost any sleep over May getting snatched up last year. May has a Crean vibe to me, as far as results on the court. Otzelberger has a higher ceiling. JMO.
