Whenever we have our next search, I hope he's one of the guys they go after the hardest.
I have season tickets to Iowa State. Definitely, a better product than bigfoot & money are putting out. Could be tough to get him from Ames as his wife played basketball at ISU. It will be an interesting off season for sure. His players get after it. ISU may win it all this year. All aboard!!!!!

His buyout was $17.5M in 2023, which is about as high as CBB coach buyouts get. I'd guess this extension keeps it up in that range. This makes him not very actionable for us.
Yeah...that's probably disqualifying, I'd say. Moot point, right now. But man, would have loved to have had him starting in April...
Nagy and Henderson, the coaches flanking TJ at SDSU had as much success as he did. Some programs just win a lot.
UNLV was better after he left.
Then, at Iowa St., he's basically built it up from the bottom and had 1 good year, which in Crean terms, would be as if this year was in 2012-2013 range.
Jury is still out until next year. (unless they run deep in the tourney this year) If he's 19-14 next year and misses the tourney, he's no better than Crean.
Tell the alums to put their money where their mouths 👄 are.
You flipping serious? I don’t think you have been watching the same ISU teams that I have been. They would absolutely destroy IU anytime since he has been at ISU. Not only that, the Big 12 has been the best basketball conference since he has been there.

But let's look at TJ's kenpom offensive efficiency in those years ..
24- 52
23- 114
22 - 171
Good defensive numbers and much better offense this year at #3 - this will get worse as the teams he plays against get better - but do you get how bad you have to be to have a 114th or 171st rated offense? IU's offense last year was at 105, which is Woodson's worst. So slightly worse to much worse than that.
TJ's defense is based on getting TO's to jump start offense - a style of play that works well against lesser talent - and which they've done well in that run. But that also means the offensive numbers when not getting transition from TOs had to be below abysmal.
Do you get just how bad a team has to be offensively to be Torvik #2 in TOs created but 122nd in offensive efficiency? Or #8 in TOs created and 184th in offensive efficiency? TOs create transition, transition greatly enhances offensive efficiency. Meaning his offense in those 3 years were pure ass.

Yes because he is coaching there. Switch coaches and IU is better than Iowa st.
Look what TJ took over and has done since he has been there.
TJ went 22-13 and to the sweet 16 in his first year. They were 2-22 the year before he got there.
Yeah I know, his overall record speaks for itself, he's had a decent run, but this fan base complains about the offense we currently have and then picks one of the worst offensive coaches in the past few years as it's savior. His teams haven't shot 3s very much either 303, 274, 179 in 3pt ratio in those 3 years. 248 this year, mostly better than Woodson but still not good enough.
3 out of 4 years, so far, the guy has had a horrible offense. His defense has been really good but it's built on gambling for those TOs ... that doesn't work on the big stage or against the better teams.

IMO, most fans wouldn't be complaining as much about Woody's offense if he was winning...
