Thread bans are the best tool we have. The alternative is site wide bans. I'd prefer to be able to ban from individual forums, but that's not available.
We have several pinned threads on this forum that don't actually suck, and thread bans - or the threat of thread bans - are a big reason why.
Those are actually easy to get around, but they take a slight bit of effort. Thread bans make people decide whether that effort is worthwhile, and they usually decide it isn't, so the net gain with a thread ban is actually greater.
Of course, but they apply site wide. It's like when Marvin goes on one of his rage binges here, giving him a vacay keeps him from posting quality stuff about IUWBB. That's not fair to him or those on the basketball boards.
Quite frankly, the kid glove treatment of Marv has to stop. You mods are simply enabling atrocious behavior by a madman.
