The wasteful spending was actually $108 billion. $892 billion of it, per the article, was interest on the debt. I agree with cutting out the stupid spending but when the cutters disingenuously sell this type of stuff as what drives the $2 trillion in deficit spending, it is hard to take them seriously. We HAVE to pay the interest. The reason we have that interest is mostly due to entitlements, not weird experiments on cats. So go ahead and cut the $100 billion in odd spending, we got $1.9T to go.

Someone questioned marbles in cats asses. I posted article about it.

The low hanging fruit seems like an easy place to start. We haven’t even been willing to get rid of this stuff. How do we expect to ever get to the big stuff?

Not to speak for others, but the dumb part of your post wasn't drawing attention to animal cruelty. The dumb part was blaming it on Democrats. I'm sure it's a bunch of pansy liberals in the DOD that approved that study, right?

Democrats seem to be the party resisting cutting out dumb shit like this. I know, I know, they want to cut it the right way.

Well, the first study published from those experiments was in 2021. Based on the normal time lag between proposal to approval to experiment to article (2-3 years), this whole cat marble ass thing was probably approved while Trump was in charge.

So, yeah. But please, keep blaming Democrats for everything. It looks good on you.

Hell Milley communicated with China behind Trump’s back. You really think Trump was aware of marbles up cat asses?

I still blame them now.
You don't have to place blame on anyone, though, to read about some of these expenditures and think "hey, maybe we as a nation shouldn't spend money on that."

By playing the blame game, though, you ensure people spend much more time defending their tribe or attacking the other one rather than addressing the actual issue.

I’ll quit blaming them when they come out and support getting rid of this crap.

Speaking of which, the actual issue has little to do with wasteful expenditures, which are dwarfed by interest on the debt and by committed entitlements.

It's like you are advising a person facing bankruptcy due to huge health care costs, and instead of trying to figure out a way to cut those costs, you put all your energy into coaxing him to stop buying a pack of gum at the grocery store every other week.

Stop wasteful spending, yes, but stop pretending it is the be-all-and-end-all. It's not even a baby step to debt reduction. Which I see no evidence that Trump wants to do, anyway. He wants to send you a big beautiful check with his name on it, and checks 100x bigger to rich folks.

I believe we are at a point where the blame game is the issue. It's not simply that people like stoll are too quick to blame the other side. That has always happened. Rather, what stoll is doing in his mind is transforming the Democrats from the opposition into a bogeyman that is, by default, responsible for everything evil in the world. Anytime anything goes wrong, the Democrats did it.

This is the kind of thinking that leads to violent oppression in most countries.

How do you think the debt, on which we're paying so much interest, came to be? It certainly wasn't from prudent spending.

Spending too much money on national park fire fighters?
Spending too much money on cancer research?
Spending too much money on giving veterans basic health care?

Those are the types of "savings" we are going after, which is like eliminating the extra pack of gum in my earlier analogy.

Not everything the governments spends money is a waste. Even the POS POTUS is waking up to that, calling for a scalpel rather than a hatchet. Don't think for a moment that the POS POTUS didn't give Musk a talking to over the chainsaw stunt, which was a much a bad visual/ fiasco as numbnuts Michael Dukakis riding around in a tank wearing a goofy helmet, back in the day.
