Wow, this is some serious horseshit.

I don't know how many autism cases I've done over the decades...but these are cases where I work closest w families...and all I can say is: these are some of the most inspirational cases I've ever had regarding family support.

A case I'll never forget: 2 autistic identical twins whose parents both died of cancer a year apart when they were 15. Those parents did more to ready their kids to exist w/o them and I was honored to help. RFK Jr has no clue. This wasn't destruction! This was the epitome of love, caring, etc.

RFK Jr is a low quality individual w serious delusions, not unlike Trump. It's all about ME ME ME w them both. Shame on us for following these ghouls.

Oh, and you don't "catch" autism, maroons. I simply can't get over how credulous and flat out ignorant our society has become. A bunch of superstitious savior-seeking, self-centered, Jesus hi-jacking, pro Russia weirdos, all of them. I wish you could've heard my convo yesterday w a prospective client who "read all the Tom Hopkins books on COVID masks" and how the vaccine wasn't a vaccine at all because, unlike the first time he got COVID unvaxxed/wound up in the hospital, the 2nd and 3rd times he merely got "a little sick...but it shows the vax don't work cuz why was I sick?!":

Ok, sir. Nice chatting w you. Good luck.

Hey stupid, they weren’t talking about catching Autism! They were talking about a cause. Like being to old to have kids. Or vaccines.

As a parent of 2 autistic children, RFK can eat shit. My son's aren't destroying anything. They are both amazing. I know several families with autistic children. None have been destroyed by their kids diagnosis. RFK is an asshole for even suggesting horse shit like that.

If he wanted to help, then he should lobby for federally backed testing and ABA. Federal training for law enforcement and other first responders on proper ways to identify and handle people on the spectrum. Things like that would actually help. Not this bullshit blame game he is crusading for.

You should be asking yourself why you have two autistic children? What’s wrong with you? You should have stopped after one!

I know you're just a troll who likes to add levity with ridiculous statements but this is an area that you should just quietly back away from.
Didn’t think you would answer my question! Better yet, you need to look in a mirror and ask yourself why.

Some of those are worthwhile things to look at. What does Autistic Elon think of this?

So is the comments from the guy that started the thread! People are sick and tired of know it all lawyers.
I know the Trump administration certainly is. Life would so much easier for them if experts weren't bringing up the law and making determinations about what is constitutional and what isn't.

Autism is a spectrum. The symptoms and indications go from A-Z.

Many believe, and I agree, that Musk is on the spectrum. Yet you ceaselessly ridicule him.

Go blow your arrogance out your ass. We don’t care.

If you don't think that there are families "destroyed" by autism, you're not paying attention.

The financial issues alone tear families apart. How do you make sure that your child is taken care of after you pass? Who takes care of the child after you pass? How do you accumulate enough money for the care after you pass? Do siblings put their life on hold or curtail their aspirations for raising a family to take care of a brother or sister after parents pass rather than see them in a group home setting? How do you assure quality of life for your child throughout their life?

That's just scratching the surface in the case of parents who have a profoundly autistic child.

I’m tempted to ridicule your sophistry but something tells me it might be a medical condition…

His interview with Hannity was entertaining. No, RFK Jr, you dumb f***, you don’t see a lot of people with “full blown autism” walking around in the mall. You don’t see a lot of non-verbal, non-“toilet trained” people with ANY diagnosis walking around the mall. And, you dumb f***, you don’t see a lot of people today who are on their 60s-70s with “full blown autism”. You know why? Because they probably f*****g died way before that age from people not knowing how to take care of them, not being properly diagnosed, and/or not getting appropriate medications/therapies. After that interview I’m convinced that brain worm starved to death.

I say all this as the father of an autistic son. Although he is very lucky as he’s high functioning, but on the spectrum nonetheless. I’m lucky to have him either way.

I'm dealing with that with a sibling now, and have been for all my life. You hit the nail on the head with this one and anyone who thinks families aren't being torn apart or being greatly burdened by severe autism has no ****ing clue what they're talking about.

As a father of a severely autistic 16 year old that’s a non-speaker, I absolutely agree with what RFK Jr had to say. I spent today cleaning up poop, having spit thrown at me and watching him bang his head off the wall. These kids are trapped in their bodies and it has to be absolutely miserable. We deserve answers as to why this is happening.

The severe autistics are the forgotten ones. No one wants to talk about them. They are ostracized on a daily basis. Thank God RFK Jr is trying to help them.

He did not say, "all" autism cases. Are your kids severely autistic or is it more a mild case where they can still work etc? There is no doubt the severe cases change the family drastically. I would not use the word, "destroy" because when you have disabled children you deal with it. We have a grandson who is almost 5. His first word was, "papa". But he doesn't really talk and hasn't walked yet because he is partially paralyzed because he had brain surgery at six months old or he would have died. He does do the thumb wrestling game and is quite amazed how ole Papa loses to him a lot. When he gets on the bus to go to school he is so proud as they mechanically lift him onto the bus.

You’re free to have your opinions, but this comment is uncalled for. You really should reconsider your message and apologize.

Hang in there as best you can for him. Hope you're able to get respite care if possible and take care of yourself too.

I can only speak to my experiences with my son, who is 9. He's square in the middle of the spectrum, with ADHD as well.

Raising him has been challenging, for sure. Finding the right balance of medication for both him and us took a long time. We've settled on Vyvanse for school days, and Guanfacine for every day.

There have been glimmers of light in the past year or so. He's run a 5k 2 different times, and is one of the better players on his soccer team. His public school has a team of professionals that help him and other kids like him out. That's in danger of being cut because, you know.

I don't know that we can find a "cause" of this condition, and I don't trust RFK Jr.
On the other hand, reading what Kelly_32 said tempers my own thoughts on the issue.

I think a lot of us wish it wasn't RFK Jr. who was leading this, but, so far, he's the only one to address the issue head on in a public way and make it a priority.

Too many times the goals are good, but get caught up in apathy, because there's a lot of money to be made in stringing some of these things along.

I think RFK has some pre-conceived notions that I hope don't influence the research.

He already has his "answer".

Also, according to Psychology Today, the divorce rate for parents of autistic children is 80%.

Autism does ruin families.
That's the parents fault. Not the kids. The divorce rate period is around 50%

Edit. That was harsh and not really how I feel.
My only point was it's never the childs fault.

You’re a hero. 🙏. Was at the zoo and saw a kid probably 16 going crazy. I mean crazy. And his poor dad simply could not get physical control of him. I was teared up. No idea whether to help or what.

Incidentally this board doesn’t have that many posters and look how many have said they have autism in their families. crazy. Good on Jr for trying to find out why

The only real differences between how we raised my daughter (an honors student, age 14) and son (age 9):

The younger is a boy, and my wife was over 35 years old while pregnant with him.

Given that each of these factors are known to make autism more likely, I don't know that we personally need much else from RFK Jr.

That is tough. Sorry to hear. Grew up with a cousin who is my age that was very similar. We all lived close together so the whole family was there for support. My aunt and uncle had two other kids that weren't autistic.

My cousin turned 18 and they put him in a facility and he's done well there.

In high school kids figured out if you said mustache to him he'd go into a rage and just beat the shit out of someone. Didn't last long though because me and some friends took care of business a couple times and word got around not to say it.

UTFO, did you listen to RFK Jr.’s actual speech or read some media interpretation?

Here is the actual CDC autism report he was responding to.

Here is the CDC Milestone Tracker for parents with young children.

———————-

I don’t understand the seismic reaction to his speech. My basic Takeaway is that he wants to put more research attention on the possibility of environmental causes being a factor in the demonstrated increase in autism writ large in the United States. And he wants to heighten our collective awareness of the problem of autism.

Well, I happened to have a connection with my cousin. The special ed class was at the end of our gym. 14th largest in the world for a high school gym. Found one of those who was going out of their way to do it. I was in a shop class with the kid and class was down the hall from the special ed class.

Got a hold of him. Let my cousin put a beating on him. It was over after that.
