I mean, things have gone so wrong, in so many areas, that I just can’t understand it as anything but a mulligan year. There are definitely very real problems that contributed to it happening, and those absolutely must be fixed, but I honestly don’t know what, if anything, this season actually means about where the program is.

For things to just completely fall apart with, outside of bits and pieces, the same roster that had two great years to build on, to this degree, is just inexplicable. And while Sheridan’s been awful, he was the OC last year and had success for the most part; the scheme (let alone the results) was much more creative and varied from him in how it was run and how many different things it tried to do, even if it did have the inconsistency you'd expect from a rookie play-caller.

The only parts of the team that have stayed on par with last year, despite almost all of them still being together, are Charles Campbell at kicker and our linebackers still being borderline elite. I would have included the secondary, but they’ve fallen off pretty significantly in the last few games, even while factoring injuries in. I just can’t process such a complete systems failure in a season with so much promise and positive momentum as anything but a snake-bitten year. The funny thing is that I still think there is enough talent on this roster to go 4 of 4 down the stretch, but have no realistic way to say anything other than that it is time to look towards 2022 and throw this year in the trash.
