Involves coach A coach B an AD and PTB (powers that be)

AD realizes coach B is a hinderance to getting his team to where he thinks it belongs but is under pressure from PTB to not give up on coach B

coach A and AD are having conversations, AD tells coach A you are my man, I want you to run my program, just give me some time we will work it out.

coach A at 1st agrees to be patient knowing that when coach Bs tenure runs its course the job is his, it's his dream job, a gentleman's agreement is in place

coach A's handlers sit him down and say listen you are at the top of the list for any opening that happens in the country you can't pass up a great opportunity for something that may or may not happen down the road no matter how much you trust AD

coach A has conversations with AD and explains to him his situation and says he must look out for himself and strike while the iron is hot, AD says I understand let me talk with the PTB and coach B and see if I can work something out to get this done give me a week before you decide anything. coach A agrees

AD gets with PTB and tells them I've got the guy to lead us for the next 10-15 years I'm confident he's the man to restore us to the level we belong at, and I don't see coach B ever getting us there.

PTB tell AD, although we are not 100 percent satisfied with the results coach B has had, but we think he is making some progress and has had some bad luck injuries etc. that have held his teams back. we think if we can give him more support through NIL and let him bring in the type of players that fit his system, he can lead us back to prominence on the national level, but we also trust your judgement, so let's do this you are authorized to get with coach B , and offer him up to 16 mil over 8 years to step aside , let him leave with dignity, issue a statement like I came here with 1 goal and that was to stabilize the program so that the institution I love can once again compete at the highest level, I feel we have done that and I plan on working in a consultant role within the athletic department for the foreseeable future as we transition to a new coach .

AD tells coach A we are going to make an unbelievable offer to coach B, he will have a titled role within in the athletic department but understands it's your program. you will probably never see him, and you definitely won't be answering to him. am going to meet with him soon to feel him out and will get back to you shortly. coach A says sounds good let me know I've got life changing decisions to make, you know where I want to be, but time is now for me.

AD sets up a meeting with coach B, coach B has been tipped off before AD can get into his offer cuts him off and says I'm not a ****in quitter and don't appreciate you going behind my back trying to replace me. AD says you sure this can be a win win, B gets animated says you heard what I said, maybe you could give me more support if you want better results

AD calls coach A tells him the timing just isn't right I wish you well.

Coach A took another opportunity

Good story. Who is coach A?

Coach A may prove the AD correct this year, but given Coach A's record up to this year, I don't think it warranted the confidence that the AD had in him. I think Coach C, though older and carrying baggage , would have been a safer hire. According to an interview with Coach Ass, years ago, the same AD told another coach, Coach D, to be patient and the program would soon be his too.... This was verified by Coach D. As much credit as the AD has gotten this year for hiring a football coach, his management of the basketball program has been laughable.

Whatever the case, this needs to be Coach B's last year.

Coach C would have had us in the FF and our program soaring right now. Coach B has got to go.

Flipping through the radio channels they were talking about the Chicago Bears. They were talking about the GM, the coaching staff, the starting QB.

Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah

The names keep changing over the decades but the organization is still a dumpster fire. Why? Because ownership matters.

They could have drafted Tom Brady and Mahomes. They could have hired any coach. The issues are far deeper.

We could go through an alphabet soup of coaches for IU. And all it may have done was tarnished reputations. The problem is systemic, it’s way above a coach. Many will point to all the wonderful resources IU basketball has, and all that money. They will cite the success of Cig and if it can happen in football, it should be so easy to plug and play a new coach into BB and watch us be elite. I disagree.

The PTB (powers that be) that @kurt cloverdales mentioned are the problem. They are much, much, much more powerful in basketball than football at IU. Just like all those McCaskey’s keeping the Bears in perpetual pathetic-ness, nothing IMHO will work (or would have worked) until the purge of the PTB. And NIL has made the problem that much more difficult and complex to address.

We all know about Quinn Buckner, but who else does this consist of?

Sorry, but the talent is not that good, guards are average at best, no true pg, lazy interior, poor rebounding, and no 3 point shooters! Another coach might make them more competitive, but this team maybe has top 30 talent at best, with a good coach! Never was top 10 talent as sold and hyped on this summer!

I partially agree—the PTB hold significant influence, and they likely exercised that power to retain Coach B this season. In this isolated instance, you’re absolutely right.

That said, I believe that with the right hire and early success, the PTB’s influence could become less significant. For example, if every IU fan’s dream came true and “boy wonder,” the ultimate Masshole among Massholes, were somehow hired, his influence could eclipse everyone else’s—much like Knight’s dominance in the ’80s. Of course, “boy wonder” isn’t coming, but I still think there are other candidates who could achieve comparable success. Furthermore, if Sampson had just kept his phone in his pocket, how many Final Fours might we have reached over the past 16 years?

It all comes down to finding the right fit.

We likely won't know how talented our individual players are until next year, after this "team" is blown up, and they're playing for other coaches. As a "team," they're god awful. Until the game slows down for Rice, guys like Reneau and Mgbako put their individual stats on the back-burner and play with intensity on defense, this "team" is doomed.

That is the bottom line, and you are right. We need someone that can wrest control from them. But, it cannot be just because the coach that is brought in is a great leader, and has great influence. He still has to be allowed to do his job, and supported. And, that power is very difficult to attain unless the success is there. Just look at RMK. Once the winning was below the levels that he had established, those PTB’s saw an opening, and starting grabbing power from him. Imho, he was being undermined by them, which led to what happened.

Cool story, and all that. But it makes no sense. If they could offer him $16 million to be a powerless figurehead in the athletic department, why couldn't they simply fire him? Why was "Coach B's" cooperation required?

because they didn't want to fire him. also, if he gets fired, he still has a payout over years
What is the payout if fired at this season’s end? I know I could likely find it online, but being lazy and looking for someone in the know to post and save me the time.

Edit: Found this. Allowed me to read without subscription. Appears IU mitigated cash flow impact by adding $1m per year buyout language in the new deal.

If they were willing to pay him $16 million to do nothing in the AD, then why not just pay him $16 million to go away?

I don't believe your story, at least not as written. But if this is close to true (that they wanted him gone but needed for him to cooperate for optics) then this was the real danger of hiring him in the first place. Don't hire an IU icon that you can't fire.

But they certainly could have fired him. No one was going to raise a stink about it. They didn't need him to play along. He's back because they wanted him back.

I don’t listen to them because they are some word that is more articulate than obnoxious, but what did those entitled Hoosier Hysteric dudes have to say about Woodson? I know they got blackballed from their access to the program and are disgruntled, but believe they had podcasts airing out some dirty laundry on woody and the athletic / basketball program.

you had factions that wanted to keep him, you had the AD and others who wanted to fire him, he would be owed a million a year for 8 years if fired. to make everyone happy see if he will take 2 mil a year over 8 years and go away on his own. the extra mil a year doesn't mean shit to certain people who want to win. the money was there.

That's part of what makes them suspect. I don't think they aired any behind the scenes stuff until he cut them off. I think they were being somewhat negative about our play and coaching, but don't think they revealed any behind the scenes stuff until they were blacklisted. They admit they were enjoying being in the "inner circle" until they weren't. But a lot of what they are revealing is still 2nd hand.

Carlyle definatelty isnt as good as lot on here said he would be. I wish he would be as good as Robert Johnson was but that most likely wont happen either.

That's what makes me want to piss on them same a a boiler. They had stories that they didn't tell until after they got banished. Pussy ass move. Snitch and a bitch.

Types of people you should never have anything to do with and have the integrity of Jared Fogle. Nice stray at Fogle if I do say so myself.

They are like disgruntled waiters/waitresses on TikTok revealing the all of the horrors of the place they just got fired from. Unreliable witnesses.

I would call them suspect ass clowns. That said, I would not throw away 100% of whatever they were spewing.

For sure a lot of truths in what they say. Thankfully the football or basketball program will never give them the time of day going forward. They had their 15 minutes of fame and then canceled themselves right after. Morons.
