reminds me of the BBN's reaction to Pope but they warmed to him pretty quickly. Should be the same with DD (I hope). Hopefully he's got more charisma than Archie and does well in the PC and then starts locking down guys pretty quickly and our fanbase comes around. That's what I expect to happen. Heck, if nothing else after the last 20+ years and especially the last 8, this wasted season and the last 6 weeks of not knowing, at least let yourself be open to the possibility he's going to work out. I've never understood people who aren't happy unless they're unhappy, but feels like there are a lot of folks like that on this board.
c'mon....this ls lightweight shit compared to the scorched earth going on at BTB the past few days, weeks, months.

This is what now, the 6th hire since RMK was fired? Each and every one of those has been a hire with something to prove, a "show me" type of hire. I reckon it's less of a matter that people aren't happy unless they are unhappy and more of a "I think we've seen this movie before, and it sucked" type of matter...at least as it pertains to me and the DeVries hire.
To be fair, a RMK type isn't walking through that door and no hire is going to measure up to the expectations of those who watched IU from the 70's through the 90's.

We have done this so many times now with limited success unless it was a big name people weren't going to get that excited. It's a show us hire

With the amount of money he is being given to build a roster, IU better be a legit contender next season.
One thing that calmed BBN fans down was the event that Kentucky through in Rupp Arena shortly after Pope's hiring (Louisville may have done something similar). Pope was very charismatic and won the fanbase over. It appears Dolson has no plans of doing anything similar; also, when it comes to charisma, DeVries is more similar to Archie. Good coach though.
To your point, no lukewarm fans are going to know who this guy is. The PC will be important, by way of introduction. Imo, he did not do well in his introductory PC for the WV position. He's never going to be a slick guy. I hope he comes across as genuine. Then the portal's going to be huge. We're in a similar position to Washington and Michigan last spring. The portal worked out great for Michigan, not so much for Washington. If we end up with a crap team he'll have difficulty catching up.

I agree. Lots of teams full of transfers this season are contenders. Including Kelsey & Pope. No grace period
Anxious to see his PC. Wonder if Coyle can get him on. He doesn't have to be super charismatic, but I hope he doesn't look as agitated or uncomfortable in PCs as Archie did. It makes a difference in a place like this. Dolson knows this so I'm expecting an improvement over Archie.

Yeah, just watched his presser after WVU's win over Utah. Not terribly impressed. Reminded me of Archie. Looked uncomfortable.

Rhodes Scholar and was talked out of leaving med school to coach. Also started out at better school than IU so not sure what you’re saying about yourself.
