They are really gonna name the court after Romeo??

Not sure you’ll ever convince a guy who admits he knows nothing about high school basketball in this state. Then again, I’m not totally sure he knows much about IU either, based on his woeful gambling record and other insane proclamations. 😂
I made money on IU last year gambling. I lost money when Romeo shot the worst percent from three in the history of IU bball. People saying he had a good IU career is what I have issue with. He had bad numbers and was a volume shooter. One of the main reasons we didn’t make the tourney is because he shot so much to avg 16 a game. You know how bad it is to shoot under 30% from three at the volume he did? No chance that ever happens in the Woodson era.

Rob Phinisee would like a word. In his last two years Phinisee was 44/168 (26%).

Romeo is highly thought of in NA for good reason. No doubt the youngsters in that area of Southern Indiana shoot hoops nailed to barns and call out Romeo's name as they make their shots. Similar to the manner in which they did the same around Oolitic and Bedford after Bailey and New Castle after Alford. Any way you slice it I think this bodes well for IU moving forward; we never know where the next home grown Hoosier will come from. If naming the court after Romeo someday brings in another Indiana grown HOOSIER, I'm all for it. Thank you Romeo; thank you for etching your name in the Indiana HS record books, thank you for coming to play at IU, and I wish you nothing but the best !!!

He did as a freshman. You also said there was no chance it would happen in the Woodson era, and Rob played for Woodson.
Volume shooter! Rob took what, 70 threes last year??? That is my whole point woody did not allow that. Romeo took like 125!!! At 27%!!!

He had bad numbers
Not true. 19.9 PER is pretty damn good for a freshman wing. Where he excelled was fouls drawn. His numbers almost equal TJD in that category. 7.1 to 7.7 per 40.

7.7 is good for a post player. 7.1 is exceptional for a wing.

Add a 12 TO% for a high volume shooter who creates 7.1 FTA per 40, a 40% 2pt J %, and 65% ATR... that is a player who will get drafted in the first round..

You're under selling him...

Oh for sure I am under selling him. I have to, everyone else literally named courts after him.

I believe Ivey for instance hit 7.1 only this year. He thrived on fouls.

lol .... well played.
I think romeo had a lot more to give. That team had no business losing 12 of 13. It was probably 90% Archie, but I think Romeo could have tried harder. I have heard no1 say he was a tireless worker and devoted himself to the game. That’s who I would name a court after.

He underachieved in his career IMO, and I obviously can’t let it go. For sure a me problem.

So do I, but I don't know if that was purely on him or how much Miller had to do with it. Those teams had no real cohesiveness, drive, passion or fortitude. Every one of them quit before the season was over and half the time I don't think they even wanted to be there.

I think losing 12 of 13 is more on the coaches and upperclassmen than the freshman stud. It absolutely should have never happened, and it should have been the writing on the wall for the Archie Miller era. I admittedly did not jump off the Archie train until halfway through his final season.

I do think a good coach would have made that team a Big Ten championship contender.

You made me try to look up Gordon’s HS numbers. I couldn’t. But romeo played against Bedford and Paoli right? I honestly have zero clue about HS basketball, and is probably a lot of the reason why I have a much different than most opinion when talking about Romeo.

I never watched him play a second of basketball till IU. Noah was much better IMO, but many people forgot he even went to IU. It’s like Romeo was Damon Bailey. Just very odd to me.
So now a dump on Bailey. He had terrible knees yet played great ball for us and with great heart. Couldn't make it in the pros. It happens to plenty of guys. So what? Damon deserves every accolade he got. Ditto Romeo.

He isn't that good at basketball, and people are naming courts after him. Most OR player I have ever seen, and it is obvious I have a problem with his time at IU. He and Archie couldn't make the tourney with a senior Juwan. Pitiful.

But I mean if we want to talk obsessed..... Me posting a story and taking lil shots at a former IU player on a bball board isn't really what I would consider obsessed. But asking your friends and acquaintances about me years ago.... A random guy at the time on a message board, not the mega world wide superstar Cavanagh's Corner is today.... Ya that is obsessive :).
I doubt that you care, but the less you talk about yourself the more I like you.

Meh ...Im good with it.
If thats what they want to do.
He was a helluva high school player..
I've not heard of a ground swell here for Zeller court..And that's with 3 Mr.Basketball's & 4 State titles...It took us for ever just to retire Craig Neal's number..
And he was a baller...

This is embarrassing.
Why care? Indiana high school legend and who the hell else are they going to name the court after? Also, seems like I remember him giving back to the community with outdoor courts/money, but I could be wrong.

Romeo is Hoosier, we should support him. No good reason to drag him. He was at IU for a year under a shitty coach with an injury. Could have been better, but F it, he got paid and was a lottery pick for a reason.

Plus, he seems like a good dude which seems to get lost when his name comes up. Maybe he didn’t meet everyone’s else’s expectations, but that’s life. He seems happy, and his story is not over. What else could one ask for?

I would be completely PO'd too. No doubt they should have named the court after Cavanagh and Romeo sucked his way in using local connections.
