Agreed, probably not a good place for the superficial, material, and greedy, who need to over compensate for their short comings or/and try to buy happiness, because they have no clue what it really is.
In fact, I'm in Switzerland right now. Geneva to be exact. But the hard truth is, the vast majority of Europe has a quality of life that is noticeably better than in the U.S. Its cleaner, people work less and earn more, the food is better, and the infrastructure isn't crumbling as it is in the states. Nearly 75% of Americans don't have passports, so statistics would suggest that most of the nitwits who are always shouting "love it or leave it pal" have never been overseas to see for themselves that our once great country anything but "exceptional".
Yeah I'm always amazed at the people that shout that America is the best country in the world, no doubt. And many have barely stepped foot out of their state, let alone the country.
Or for the ambitious that want a better life for themselves and their children, instead of paying some lazy loser chick, with my tax dollars, to write some goofy-ass book.
People talking authoritatively about something they know nothing about? That would be a first.
It's one of my pet peeves to hear/read anyone crow on about the "greatness" of our country, or the "exceptional" nature of Americans and our country. It just demonstrates our collective ignorance. To be honest, it's a bit embarrassing.
It should be a kind of law, or at least a hefty tax break given to anyone who wishes to spend time overseas and experience the world from another country's perspective. It's a vital part of anyone's life education. Zizkov?
I think you're mistaking us with Finland. I can't believe you mentioned children as a talking point. That's about as laughable as Donald Trump's hair.. and really, the only thing you're concerned with is money. Which shows a complete lack of anything nearing wisdom and awareness and which makes my original post accurate. You have no clue what happiness is.. none. I used to buy into all the BS that is spewed about 'socialism'. However, after 11+ years here, I realized that 92.4% was complete BS.

The words he should have used and the more accurate phrase is "superficial greed" or transparent overcompensation. What he doesn't realize is that the superficially greedy can still be greedy and overcome their short comings and buy a piece of paid for ass., but those who would rather define their lives by something other than employment, can instead live their damn lives.

Happiness is an emotion, dolt. Like every emotion it's caused by chemicals and you either control it or not. Ultimately, it is nothing but a choice.
But, I guess when you're a superficial greedy short dick who believes happiness is doing something that any asshole with a couple hundred bucks can do, and buying a ticket to something you're as clueless about, well I can only chalk that up to weak mindedness and lack of real self esteem.

Is happiness the same for everyone? Maybe he enjoys laughing at all his boss' jokes and it makes him truly happy. My only point is that happiness comes in many forms (beer) and perhaps we shouldn't substitute your definition (pot) for anyone else's. Happiness is a choice, nothing more, nothing less. A majority have never felt it. People try to drink it, smoke it, buy it, pray for it, steal it, and make it, but a truly wise person knows none of that works, and they can just chose to be so regardless of any uncontrollable outside circumstance. .

Another poster in Switzerland right now also posted and apparently actual personal experience pales in comparison to what Fox News or GOP talking points say, Because neither would say anything inaccurate.

It's not off track at all, the thought process I pointed out for Pelkowski is the reason he and others believe what they do. I bet he actually thinks poor people are poor because they're lazy and that rich people are rich because they "work hard" and he used to word ambition and like I said, REAL ambition requires no payment. To him ambition equals making money. The true definition of that trait is greed.
It's that protestant work ethic norm created long ago to make serfs work harder for their masters and that has lasted through ignorance to our current era. It's now an American norm, as the English, Dutch and Germans who created it became wise.

It was an attempt to bring it back into focus. If Pelkowski finds happiness working long hours to make a lot of money to go and do what he wants, that's fine.
However, concluding that others that don't buy into this philosophy are somehow lazy and not will to work is wrong. And I will put my experience up against any anecdotal evidence he has.
Whatever source he wants to use.
